Hello everyone, newb here with a question regarding Humidors and proper technique for keeping a humidor at the right humidity.

I am an avid cigar smoker so i have done some research on proper techniches, however i always seem to not be able to keep my cigars at the desired humidity of say 68. Lately i have gone to the Fuente 6 month pouches, but that is a short term solutions.

I am beginning to think that my humidor has run its course and would like to take a look at something that has a better hydrometer system.

Any suggestions.

Thanks
Claude

A properly sealing humidor and some beads will fix you up.

Might I suggest this forum and the sticky threads in the top of it. Especially humidity beads. http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=14

Humidity is totally relative. There is no set mark to hit. I keep mine around 60-63%. 68% imo, is too high. I know others that keep theirs higher and some that go even lower. It's all about what you prefer.

Oh, welcome! Stop by here and introduce yourself. http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=7

I will give you a couple of suggestions to help seal your humidor. First, if it seals by having the inner Spanish Cedar lining rise up about 1" to mate with the top, wipe down the top and the risers with distilled water-it will make them swell up a bit and seal better. The other suggestion is to get your hands on some sail wax or bees wax and rub that on any spots where the top and bottom make contact. This will also help to seal the humidor. The other normal advise is to obtain beads and use 1 and 1/2 as many as calculated and invest in and properly calibrate a digital hygrometer. Take these steps and then decide whether your humidor has croaked. For the record, spring, summer and fall I need to add water monthly, but winter in New England with the total absense of humidity, I am adding water every four days and my humidors do seal properly. Good luck my friend.:tu

What kind of beads did you buy? Not all beads are created equally.
