You are like the drug companies.... not a cure but a daily facilitator. Cash flow baby!Seriously, I know of so many traditional/medical (that's called allpathic) ways to treat medical problems, as well as many less traditional (naturopathic, homeopathic, holistic) ways of approaching problem solving.

The key as a healer is to remain well grounded, be open, compassionate, and understanding, and apply tough loving when necessary.

I am after all a natural (hands-on) healer and an ordained minister!!! Seriously!

OK! NOW BACK TO THAT WACKY WEED THAT WE SO ENJOY. :o

According to the new org charts, I am a Test Technican for a company that builds semiconductor test equipment (they go by names like Sapphire, DeFT, ITS9000 IX, ITS9000 KX-1024 & KX-768) that we sell to BigLoo's company and other companies in the similar market.

But with the market instability and such, I am looking for new opportunities. I want to open up a restaraunt but I have zero experience with it (but I'm sure the idea I have will be popular because it's a niche in an area that needs to be filled in).

any tips on how to get in working for the fed gov? I really want a federal job

Best place to start: http://www.usajobs.gov/. Most (if not all) federal organizations are now using this common site for job postings.

It's also good to know someone inside who can give some input into the type of openings available. Where are you in your career and what are you looking for? I work for the FAA and I know that there are a lot of controller openings if you have the stomach (or nerves) for that work.

I hate USAJobs, they make it so confusing sometimes. The problem I have found is they want you to have experience at a GS 5 level. The problem is that I only have 3 months at a GS 5 from when I was a seasonal park ranger at Gettysburg.

PitmanGeek

My understanding is that you have to show that you have experience that matches that level. I'm a late-career government employee (just turned 40 with only 1 year as a fed at the FAA) and I just had to show comparable experience (mine was as a contractor) at the appropriate level. My situation was unique in that I had almost 20 years experience on my resume when I applied and got picked up as a fed.

You can look at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) site for detailed descriptions of the positions and what the responsibilities/expectations are.

A college degree will typically get you a GS-7 if your grades were good, GS-5 should be easy. Are you still near the Gettysburg area? There may not be much up that way, but if you're willing to move east a bit there are always hundreds of postings for Ft Dietrick, Aberdeen Proving Grounds (my home), and the DC metro area.

Job fairs are great places to make contacts. Check out the nearby schools and see if the government is recruiting there, you usually don't need to be a student. I graduated from VT, but I ultimately got hired from a contact I met at UMD. Those sorts of personal contacts will mean more than a random resume online.
