Ok i joined just the other day and have been looking through the forum constantly. Now I figured why not show you my little Humidor project. This bedside cabinet was in the attic it was my wifes and she decided to paint it some time ago before i met her. It started out as just something for me to tinker with strip it down see what we got and restain well come to find out its walnut and I have a desire for a actual humidor so as you can see in the pic's i have started stripping it down. I figured i will line the inside with cedar and pick up some cedar trays. I have a few ideas on how I want to make the doors seal up we'll see if it works out it is pretty sturdy also.

Heres the cabinet without the doors or the top

Heres a little valence that goes under the doors

and heres the doors and the top
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y198/etznova/P1060442.jpg

heres a closeup of the doors the wood has a lot of great lines in it which is very hard to see in the pic

I still have a lot of sanding to do

I'll move this to the Accessory Forum as that's where most humidor stuff is located. (It certainly not Cigar Discussion related)

Yeah it was probably nice before it got painted also it seems the top had a dark stain around the border and the center was the same color as the rest of it I'm going to try and replicate that a little when i refinish it

Well back out to the garage i'll bring the camera with me

Thanks for the kind words guys

Ok well i have most of it sanded now. I'll have to get some fresh pic's tomorrow when i'm out in the garage. the sides are a lot more beat up than i thought i might have to replace or veneer the side there are quite a few chipped edges. So we'll see

And here it is all finished up stained and cedar lined. As you can see i didn't go with a nice showroom shine finish. The wood was rough and had a lot of knicks i did'nt want to loose that character it has so i left it with a dull finish

Yeah i do too. after the paint was stripped off i was able to see the condition of the wood and i realized that there was no way i would be able to bring this back to a showroom shine. And i just like the old look a lot of times

Looks good Erick! Great salvage job on unused furniture. :tu

Just to make certain, that is Spanish Cedar, not some other type of cedar, right? Better to ask than not to. :)

Well its not aromatic cedar. I picked it up at the local menards, the packageing didn't state what kind but it looks like southern or norhtern white cedar

It looks great but my concern is with the cedar lining . Most local stores don't carry "Spanish Cedar" , usually only a woodworkers specialty store will carry it . A store like WoodCraft , Rockler or a specialty lumber yard usually carry some small quantities in stock .
