View Full Version : Thinking about firing one up......in the house

The wife and I spent Christmas with her family in Lakeland FL this year. I drove back by myself Thursday so I can go back to work this week. She will be staying in FL until next Sunday when her and my two children fly back home. I'm thinking....I have the whole house to myself. Can't sleep....why not fire up a smoke. Currently 19 degrees outside (here in Winston Salem NC), so don't wanna go out there. I pretty much have the basement to myself in this house, it's finished with carpet and drop ceiling. Not much chance of the smell getting into the 1st or second floor of the house. Anyway, she's 650 miles away, and I have 7 days and a full bottle of febreze.... Also have a large sliding glass door down here to help with the airing out process tomorrow.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. Go for it. And I feel you on the cold (being only about 90 minutes south of W-S).

I smoke in my basement (finished) several times a week, and can't usually tell by the next morning.

Smoke with the glass door open and the heater on. When you are done dump the butts before you go to sleep. The next morning spray down with Oust or another odor neutralizer. Last thing before she gets home is to use Carpet Fresh and vacuum. I smoke daily in my house and clean and spray before my grandkids come to visit. Works like a charm! :tu

I was just thinking about doing the same being the temperature here is even worse, -5. so theres no way im goin out there. but then weighing the consequences if i did would probably worse than suffering out there for an hour so ill just wait till tomorrow :( If i was in your situation though id light up.

Do you use one of the scented candles while you smoke? Or a plain candle? I would think the scented candle might help with the smell afterwards, but I wouldn't want that scented crap in the air while I'm smoking!!

I didn't last night. Fell asleep in my chair down here. I most defiantly will do it this evening though! Gotta head out for a few thing, probably pick up a few smokers candles and an extra bottle of febreze while I'm out. But this is defiantly happening this evening!

It's just one of my wife's candles she has lying around the house. I think the big thing is getting as much smoke outside as quickly as possible so, IMHO having good ventilation is the important thing for smoking in your home.

That's correct! Digging through the coolers now! A few things on TV this evening.....I prob have time for 3 cigars....maybe 4 if I feel the urge. I'm gonna slip the glass door open a bit and set up a box fan blowing out. Not sure how well it will work because my chair is roughly 15ft from the door. Also though about maybe removing 2-3 of the ceiling tiles above my chair. Let the smoke get above the drop ceiling....lol.

Pics of basement room right before I moved in. Only been here a month, so don't have any pics with my stuff in there yet. Anyway, the cable wires over near the glass door are where the computer sits, the other wires are where my big screen sits. My chair is on the opposite wall across from the TV, where I will be smoking. White door near the glass door in the picture leads to the garage. In the second picture, that open way has another door to the garage just beyond it, and to the right inside the open way (out of sight) in the stairs leading up to the first floor, with a door closed at the top. Smell shouldn't go up there..

lol, Oh I'm putting alot of thought and planning into this! My wife isn't that bad though. I've made her mad a few times but it was always something a bit worse, like burning up a good pot or something. Easily fixed by just buying her a new one. I love hot pepper and hot sauces, I make alot of beef jerky. I dried alot of Habaneros on the dehydrator once, and ground them up in the blender when making a sauce. She came home while that dust was still in the air. I caught hell over that one as she can't stand hot stuff. Eyes watering, nose running, all the windows open, etc. If she does smell it, she'll just roll her eyes an probably have a smart comment about it. If nothing else, it will help me pave the way for getting my smoking room built. Planning to covert a large area in the 2 car garage into a smoking room in the next year or two. She insist on parking in the garage, but I could care less, so I park my vehicle outside where vehicles belong.

If It's that big of a worry, might I suggest....your car. You can keep warm, listen to music, good ventilation and best of all, they usually have one of their own. Just remember to keep the window cracked, or it'll stink terrible for weeks.

David, Put a towel at the bottom of the door leading into the upstairs just in case. First time you might want to have both the garage door and glass door open. Its the lingering smoke that can really leave odors, if the smoke is vacated quickly it doesnt have a chance to get into fabrics which will retain odor the most.

I smoke in my car all the time. Speaking of cars, I failed to mention, it might be a double whammy anyway. I smoked 5 cigars in her van on the 10 hours drive back from Florida Thurday. lol Had the window down, and I went out there this mornin and can barely smell anything. Leaving the window down in the garage all night and will shoot some Febreze in there too to be safe.

I have a bottle of Fabreeze, a can of Lysol, and 3 candles lit when I smoke inside. I crack the sliding glass door and put a chair near it, where I can sit and watch TV. I also turn on the ceiling fan, in reverse, on low.
I can usually get away with it, unless one of the kids throws me under the bus and says 'Dad was smoking in the house!'

UPDATE
Well, I smoked 5 cigars down here in the basement late Sunday night over in the morning hours of Monday. Just sprayed a little Frebrez around. Went to work Monday night, got back home Wednesday morning. Could barely smell anything down here. Smoked 4 more last night. Tonight, I still barely smell anything at all, very faint. Gotta go to work tonight, probably be back Saturday morning sometime. I guess I'll let it air out a bit, spray Frebreze again, and burn that Frebreze candle I bought. Pick her up from the airport Sunday afternoon, and see if she smells it. I think 98% of the smell will be gone if not completely. Id say it's at least 90% gone now.
