I need to upgrade my wireless router, however I have a worry about what type say a wireless-g or an n, or even b for that matter. This is one area of electronics that I haven't been keeping up with and I would like some insight in this matter. Would they be compatible for my laptops around the house and if not how can I determine what I need.

Try to get N for the speed, you can check the box (of the router) for compatibility with G and B cards. To find out what your computer has in it you can check the web for "scan" sites belarc is one I have used. You can also look into the device manager to see what type you have.

wireless G will work fine, around $55.00
wireless N is "newer" technology $75.00

Linksys is the most popular brand

Ok so I have a b/g wireless card...would it be better to get a g dedicated wireless modem OR a dual band g/n wireless modem? Doing some research online true g/n compatible is very expensive where is a simulated g/n is just not as good.

Check the ads for a g that they have on sale for the holidays unless you are planning on doing some heavier gaming across it.
