View Full Version : Which Pepin now?

Alright,
So with all the sales and whatnot going on right now, I thought I might pick up another box of Pepin smokes. Now, I like my smokes REALLY rich, spicy, and strong. I currently have a box of Habana Leon Toros that I'm loving. I've had the blues which left me as sort of ...meh. I do like the 601 reds and greens though. What are some of the other ass-kicking Pepin smokes (that are somewhat affordable)?

Thanks

Cuabo... Strong, peppery and affordable....

I second the Cubao for a good Pepin stick

I also like CI's yellow label, good Pepin smoke and affordable
Alos the Carojo Label from Cigar.com also affordable and I like them for an everyday smoke at the price.

If you haven't tried the new La Aroma De Cuba blend by Pepin pick that one up and give it a try aswell. :ss

I agree the lancero is great.

Another vote for Cubao Lancero or Blue Fundadores. Giralda is a good choice as well.

I'm pulling for either the 601 Red robusto or the DPG Invictos myself Rich:)

Another vote for 601 Red. DPG Black Label.

As much as I like Cubao, they are not as strong as either of the two above, IMO.

I might try the San Cristobals if you like rich and peppery.

Otherwise the DPG Black Labels are rather full. You might try the My Fathers as well.

To me, the blue lanceros (fundadores) are more mild to medium (great cigars by the way).

That's what I think of the Black's, sans Perla. :r

Cubao's are great though I have not had the lancero. I really like the JJ maduro belicoso, I have found the DPG Blue generosos very rich and peppery

Yeh I know. Actually, whenever you say you like a cigar by Pepin, I usually avoid it. :D :r

I think our palates are polar opposites.

601 reds are my personal favorite of the cigars mentioned. I used to buy and smoke them regularly when I was primarily a CC smoker. I really wanted to like the DPG lanceros, and I've smoked several now, but I found them all to be very spicy and harsh without much flavor at all.

Some good recommendations already. The only thing I'd add is the old Henry maduro. I like the robusto's over the toros that I've had.

The old henry maduro was the one that jumped into my head first. They're cheap too.

See, that's the problem with suggestion threads. Everyone's got their own favorite and you end up with a hundred different recommendations. Nobody's mentioned Tatuaje yet, even tough they're technically pepins too. You said you like 'em strong and spicy and if that's the case, you can't beat the La Riqueza in my opinion. Even though they're a bit strong for my preference, I can't overlook the fact that they taste fantastic... which is why I keep buying them.

Have you noticed any difference in the La Riqueza since the switch from dress boxes to cabs?

Folks,

He did say "somewhat affordable." Are JJ's, La Riq's, My Fathers and San Cristies really considered somewhat affordable?

Benchmade or Tabocco Baez SF. Both extremely affordable and both a great Pepin taste.

I would stick with the 601 Greens. They are spicy (peppery) and pretty strong. The Cuban Classics are a good medium smooth smoke IMO. I love both for a change of pace.

Wow, everyone seems to be all over the other blends, but the KING of Pepin's blends currently imho is the My Father Le Bijou Petit Robusto

$4.50 a stick is not too bad for the Petit Robustos.

12-21-2009, 10:51 AM
Yea, that's not too bad. That's still a short cigar though. I paid something around $12 for the churchill. Haven't smoked that one yet. lol. The first le bijou I had was a petit robusto. I enjoyed it.

I'm not sure which ones I had since they were singles from a local B&M, but I've heard others say they're aren't as good now as they were when they first came out.

The My Father Robusto and Lance are great.
The San Cristobal is great also. Very rich. Try to get hold of the S.C. Lancero :dr

Sorry, overlooked this part.
I agree w/ BFallehy on the CI Yellow and the Cigar.com Corojo Label.

I Didnt dig the Tat P very much.

The Benchmade is a decent, affordable smoke.

Try the "6 Pack to Go" on Holts.com of the Casa Royal too. Pretty nice.

Can't go wrong with any of Pepins cigars. I'm going to throw something different out there. Try the Ambos Mundos (Sumatra) a $5 smoke. I smoke one just about every other day.

For what your looking for, I would say series JJ, Cubao, or San Cristabol. Or Vegas Cubana, or Tobacco Baez. Or the often overlooked Red label.
