I'm super excited. I've wanted to be a Shriner since I was about 15. :tu

Super congratulations from me Darrell. I spent the better part of the 1960's at Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis, and I'm extremely grateful for all they have done for me. I will be forever in their debt. I was privilaged enough to meet the who's who of Hollywood during my many stays there. Nothing but the best for the kids. And, even though I'm a Packer fan, the doc that performed all my surgeries was the team physician of the Minnesota Vikings at the time. I guess that's why I'm a bit of a closet Viking fan to this day.

If I could, I'd shake your hand, but I'll applaud you from here for becoming a member of such a worthwhile organization and say thanks.:tu

Congrats Darrell! Could you tell me what a Shriner is?

I just remember seeing them drive around in miniature clown cars as a kid at the local parade.

The Shriners are an organization of Master Masons whose #1 priority is charity. These Men help to fund 22 hospitals nationwide, the Shriners Hospitals for Children are leading experts in the treatment of burn victims and correct of cleft palate. The parents of these children are not charged a DIME for their services, if a child is deemed fit to receive specialized services from the hospital, they are admitted.

Shriners are the good guys. :)

OK. That is pretty much what I thought (burn victims, etc.)

They have the coolest meeting lodges too. At least the one here was. Filled with big padded chairs and low lights. Like stepping into a Bogart movie. They invited me every year to a Christmas party, and even then I thought this would be a cool place to light up a cigar. Too bad I was barely a teenager at the time.:(

Glad to see your hard work paying off. You deserve it! :tu

Congrats Darrell! There is a Shriners Hospital a few miles away from me in Springfield and they do wonders for so many children. One in particular is the son of a good friend of mine who has spinal bifida (not sure if I spelled that correctly). And they provide all the care free of charge! Will you get to wear the cool outfits and drive the funny little cars in parades? A classy organization!

I don't know which outfits you're speaking of, but I will wear a fez. All Noble's wear a fez. Also, the cars are part of the mobile unit (each Shrine has units and clubs you can join). I'd sure like to be a part of the mobile unit, building and driving the little car would be so much fun.

Damn right ya are, thank God I'm covered by the hospital I attend in Erie, Pa until I'm 21, otherwise, my life would've been a nightmare years ago. They talked about losing some resources and funding, and it'll be a sad day if they do. So many helped for so little investment.

Kudos!
