Took me a couple years of building components and about as long at trying to convince the wife we need an upgrade. We went from a 42" Panasonic EDTV plasma to my new jewel, the 58" Panasonic TC-P58V10 plasma. I'm happy as a clam at high tide!!!

The complete setup sits in the corner of our living room. We sit 11-14 feet away. I have the room rigged with 5.1 sound. I also have a 15w 6500K bias light behind the set to limit eye-strain when watching in complete darkness. It's by far not tops in the home theater world, but it drops my jaw all the time.

Let's see some pictures, Inmates!

Panasonic TC-P58V10
Panasonic DMP-BD35
Dish Network VIP622
Nintendo Wii
Onkyo TX-SR505
Polk Audio TSi CS10 center channel
Bose Interaudio 4000XL main speakers
KLH 2-way surround speakers
Polk Audio PSW10 subwoofer
TechCraft Sorento Series Stand 60"

I have one and all I know is I have recessed 10 inch Sonance speakers in my ceilings throughout my first floor. a 46" Sony Bravia XBR mounted on the Wall. Everything runs through a Yamaha something or other and the center speaker is wall mounted but I forget the model (Mirage I think). Polk audio Subwoofer, Wii and PS3 as well.

I don't have a decent enough sound system to put up pics, but I do have your exact TV and blu ray player (bought them both together). Did you happen to buy yours through Crutchfield? I am not going to spend the money on a nice system until I am on my own, so I picked up a cheap yamaha receiver and speakers because I need something. I effing love my tv though.

Don't think I have any pics, but this is the basic setup:

Panasonic AX100U Projector
102" fixed screen

Onkyo 605 Receiver
Polk Center and Fronts
In-ceiling rears and surrounds (7.1)

PS3, Wii, components, etc.

The projector is ceiling mounted and everything runs through my receiver. Also very handy for hooking up a laptop to watch streaming or downloaded content.

Got mine from Best Buy with a 10% off coupon. Took it 10 weeks to come in, as it was back-ordered forever.

I, too, love this TV. For the price, the PQ and size can't be beat. I just partial to plasmas...sorry all you LCD/LED folks.

I dont have any pics yet but my buddy and I did a theatre setup at my Mom's house in the basement.

104" screen
Sony 720p projector
Yamaha Reciever
Definitive Technology 5.1 setup (powered subwoofers in both fronts and the center) they sound amazing
3 oversized reclining theatre chairs and a bunch of love sacks on the ground in front

I might be going over there tonight so I will try to take some pics if I remember.

If anyone has any questions about AV stuff feel free to ask, I have been into this stuff since middle school or earlier and my buddy knows almost everything there is to know about projectors and TVs

I have a bunch of cobbled together crap that works pretty well. I will try to post pics and get models and such later. I spent a lot of time at AVS forums learning and picking brains about 4 years ago when I was finishing my basement. Without an absolute "dedicated" room, I did pretty well. I throw a 109" image in a dark room.

No recent pics, but this is what I lounge in front of on a daily basis.

42" 768p Samsung PDP
Sony 60GB PS3
Xbox 360
Nintendo Wii
Sony BDP-S350
Toshiba HD-A2
Onkyo HT-rc160
Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 speakers & sub. (Small but sufficient since I live in an apartment. Clarity is unbeaten for their size and price)

How does a college student afford all this? I had a well paying internship 2 years ago when I lived with my folks :r ... not paying rent and making bank does wonders for your home theater stuff :D

Recently upgraded my Onkyo SR-505 for the HT-rc160.

Couldn't agree with you more. I don't think I will ever be interested in LCD but I am curious to see what the LED tvs are like in a few years. Nothing can beat a plasma for blacks and blues....and I don't even think greens. My tv looks 10x better than anyone else's tv for baseball, golf, and hockey. To me, there isn't a noticeable difference when watching football though(depending on jerseys).

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Rattersar15/IMG_0004-5.jpg

Samsung PN58b550 Plasma (love the thing)
LG Blue Ray player I just picke up, forget the model number. It's their base model but works great, just no BD live stuff.
Harmon/Kardon AVR520 I bought about seven years ago. Wish I had hdmi switching, but the thing sounds way too good to replace. Would be nice to have the hd sound too, but not sure if my lousy ears could really tell the difference.
Cambridge soundworks speakers with a Acoustech 10" sub.

Overall I really love the whole setup. Like I said, hdmi switching would be nice, but not worth the expense to get a receiver that sounds as good as this one.

Steve, your cable box and blu-ray should have an optical sound out and hopefully the H/K has input channels for optical. If so, you're in business. HD sound!

I have an optical out from the cable box and a coaxial digital out from the blu ray (didn't have optical). Does the blu ray player decode the hd sound? I thought the receiver had to be capable of it. But like I said, still sounds awesome so I don't know if I could tell the difference anyhow. :)

Depends on the model LG you have, Steve. If you look it up, the spec will tell you if the unit decodes or if it requires outside decoding.

Hey, if you're happy, that's all that matter! I totally agree with that. :ss

Just last night I picked up the Onkyo TX-SR507 receiver (http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR507-5-1-Channel-Surround-Receiver/dp/B001VEI290/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261581090&sr=1-1), a set of Energy Take 5 speakers (http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Take-Classic-Pack-Theater/dp/B0021L9BME/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261581157&sr=1-1), and a Polk 10" sub (http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-10-Inch-Monitor-Subwoofer/dp/B0002KVQBA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261581207&sr=1-1)

I ordered a 46" Toshiba Regza 120 HZ LCD and Blu-Ray player at the beginning of December and the first shipment was lost somewhere. Another TV and BD player was shipped out this week but hasn't arrived yet.

I hooked up the receiver, center, two fronts and the Sub to my existing TV last night and let it play for a bit and it sounds awesome. The speaker manual urges a 50-hr break-in period at normal listening levels so I haven't cranked them yet, but listening to movie themes and big band music (lots of horns, separate instruments) the speakers sound great.

Soon as the TV comes in I'll be posting pics!

Jamie, HD sound isn't carried over optical. If he doesn't have HDMI he needs to have 7.1 analog out on the blu ray and in on his receiver.

Well, final config changes are now done. Our customized cabinet/stand (75" x 27.5" x 20") finally arrived and I bought a Samsung BD-P1600 Bluray player to replace the old non-upscaling 5-disc DVD changer we used to have. Might have to upgrade the NAS soon though, I'm down to 2.5TB free.....

crappy cell phone pic from when the stand was delivered:

http://gallery.mithril.ca/d/44199-1/new+stand+01.jpg

all wired up and running happily:

http://gallery.mithril.ca/d/44241-1/tv-stand.jpg

The centre channel is hidden behind the plasma since it's too tall to sit in front and I didn't have the centre section made as wide as I thought I was going to. The idea was to have all the components on the lower level and the centre in where the BD player is but it's not a big issue. This config leaves lots of room for the Zune dock and Harmony 720 charging station (to the left of the BD player, can't really see in this pic).

Nice Setup, but do you get an echo in there with the wood floor?

The lack of acoustical absorption by the floor could/would increase reverb time to unnatural sounding levels. Could fix it easy with a square floor rug in the center where your surrounds are pointing downward.

BengalMan
02-20-2010, 01:26 PM
Nope no echo. Have had it at all levels from everyday TV watching to it being maxed out during UFC fights. Eventually were putting an area rug down, but waiting a few more months as the wood we used changes with the levels of sun for the first 6 months or so.
