I have a Xikar cutter that I believe needs some sharpening. It tends to pinch more than cut. Any suggestions?

Send it back. They have a lifetime warranty and great customer service. They will make it like new, or send you another one.

I've seen retailers advertising them as such. Can't say I recall Xikar ever saying this.

If any cutter clams to be self sharpening I would have to call :bs.

as most have said send it back, also lets not make this into a palio v.s. Xikar debate.

Just got back my Xikar, it was a new one (different color).

I sent in black - got silver in return. If you want the same color back, you should send a note saying such.

Thanks for the advice. As long as it cuts a nice clean straight cut, I don't care what color it is.

Might also want to note what kind of steel you want too. ;)

Xikar replaced my cutter through my local b&m at no cost. I believe the steel used is the same througout all of their cutters, it is the finish that is different.

Some of the older ones were made with German Steel blades.

As everyone already said you can send it back to Xikar or take to any B&M that sells Xikar and get a replacement right then and there.

where are xikars advertised that they are self sharpening?

1. Xikar Xi3 Cutter - Redwood
Stainless Body with Redwood Handles - Self Sharpening Stainless Steel Blades
http://www.cheapercigars.com/xikar_cutters.html

2. The makers of Xikar cutters use the latest technology to create razor sharp edges and self-sharpening steel blades.
http://www.cigarsinternational.com/proddisp.asp?item=M-XK01

3. Xikar cutters are not cigar toys. They are cigar tools. Each cutter is self sharpening, so every time you cut a cigar, the blade gets sharper,

You good or do you need more?

Xikar makes no claims about being self-sharpening anywhere on their site I can see, so "caveat emptor". If CI and other sites want to advertise it as such, well so be it.

Personally, I've had my Xikar for about 4 years and it's still every bit as sharp as my pocketknife.

What's the difference between the X1,X2, and the X3?
Why is X2 cheaper?

the body of the cutter is nylon fiberglass composite, the blades are the same in all the cutters.

You think they these retailers just decided to call the blades self sharpening on their own?

Truly, yes I do. It's sales hype, plain and simple.

I just looked all over the website and couldn't find anything about "self-sharpening," and I know our rep doesn't use that line when he swings by to stock us. So my presumption is they claim that, knowing full well that Xikar will sharpen them for free if you send them in. CI and the other retailers essentially gets a free marketing tool at Xikar's expense.

Edit to add that I'm not bashing anyone here, and I don't think Xikar cares if retailers claim "self-sharpening", because they openly and willingly sharpen cutters for free for the lifetime of the product, and it improves sales from their end as well.

don't the palio's self sharpen?

OpusEx

don't the palio's self sharpen?

Simple answer: No, they do not, but then again, NO CUTTER self sharpens.
Longer answer: Call me, we'll discuss it :D

Bottom line: If the blade has been sharpened to "extremely" sharp and has a Rockwell hardness high enough, it will stay that way.
