As I'm sitting and watching the beginning a little light bulb in my head started flashing letting me know something seemed very familiar here, then watching the intro credits up popped the name of Elmore Leonard, one of my favorite writers...this episode "Fire In The Hole" was scripted from a short story by Leonard that I just read a few months ago and while I was reading it I thought Raylan Givens would make a great character for a TV show, and voila, here he is...keep watching guys, it's only going to get better...

My :2 = Don't know if I can keep coming back to a show that's main premise is threatening the main character's life each time. We all know he's not going to die, or the show would be over.

IF they bring in some other characters who bite it, I'll be in. If it all centers on him, I don't know...we'll see how episode two goes.

Olyphant carried the first show with confidence, but the surrounding characters were a little weak.

I'd give it an 'eh' but we'll see!

I'm showing up late to this party... but thanks to the power of the "interwebs" (Thanks, Al Gore ;) ) I am caught up.

Holy Moley! My second favorite show to "Sons of Anarchy." Loved, LOVED the first episode. I also have the perspective of having lived in Southeast Kentucky (my daughter was born in Corbin) and I spent some time in "Bloody Harlan." Overall, they do a fairly good job of capturing the feel of the area.

Looking forward to more. :tu

I what I have seen so far. Still it is missing something at this point. SOA you could kind of see the big over arching story lines that tied the episodes and the season together. So far with Justified it seems the episodes are relatively unrelated.

I am sorry but so far all the Crowder characters bore me, one dimensional, stereotyped bad guys, and the actors potraying them seem to take it all half assed.

Olyphant may be in a stereotype but at least he tries.

I have tried to like this show but about to give up on it. Just seems like it gets cheesier and cheesier with bad acting and stupid plots. As much as I enjoy shoot-um-up shows this one is just not quite right!

Great ep this week. Loved Raylan's prayer he says for Boyd's congregation.
Dear Lord, before we eat this meal, we ask for forgiveness for our sins, especially Boyd, who blew up a black church with a rocket launcher and afterwards shot his associate Jared Hale in the back of the head on Tates Creek Bridge. Let the image of Jared’s brain matter on that windshield not dampen our appetite but may the knowledge of Boyd’s past sins help guide these men. May this food provide them with all the nourishment they need, but if it does not, may they find comfort in knowing the United States Marshals Service is offering $50,000 to any individual providing information that will put Boyd back in jail.

I lived about 45 minutes from Harlan... visited several times... we always called it, "Bloody Harlan."

Thanks for the post :tu just watched latest episode, it definetly set things up. I really can't see Raylan moving. I'm confused though, do they mean there are 6 episodes from season one that were never shown ? Either way FX has two outstanding series with Justified and S.O.A

I think they used that to 'mellow' him a little bit. He changed dramatically during that period. He went from a violent racist redneck to a very scary smooth talking charismatic character.

Just watched the finale. I thought this season was great, it had alot going on. That said, I thought that the finale was a little disappointing. I still thought it was good but I don't think it left anything on the table where I was like " wow, I can't wait for next season ". Don't get me wrong it was good but not like SOA, where I was like Holy Sh$t. Although the head shot was surprising. I'll add that I watched Deadwood and The Wire when they were on and thought both series were great.

I thought it was a great season, and although the finale didn't end with a cliff-hanger, it left enough open so that next season it can either pick up right there, or pull a '24' and jump forward and just explain things in whatever way they want.

I can see Dickie coming back, and of course Boyd can't go away. I even dig the 'mobster' type guy, Wynn Duffy. Loved him as 'Kirk' on "Dear John" way way back in the 80s.

I was guessing that Winona would be killed in the finale. No way Raylan settles down and has a kid. And he just ain't the same if he ain't banging women folk all over. I bet she leaves, goes back to Gary, miscarries, or something else tragic next season.

I can't wait for next season!

Not digging the recycled characters though. Actors/Actresses need to stick to one show.

Raylan's woman (Natalie Zea) was on Californication as Hank's woman of one year.
The Ice Pick dude is Quinn on Dexter
The guy Raylan never wanted to have a conversation with again is Anson on Burn Notice

I'd like to see some original faces.

That said it was a good first episode, the sliding of the table cloth was pretty slick. Not sure how much I buy a gun shot wound to the left side as throwing off his aim THAT much. Movement and streetwork, definitely but shooting...eh...

This series is really delivering. I find the story lines are quite compelling. The relationship between Boyd and Raylan, is really a very dynamic one. Great show.
