View Full Version : How much do you spend on cigars?

Lately, I have been feeling that I am the only shmuck out there spending what feels like a fortune on cigars. Of course, I realize this isn't the case... many people here clearly have MUCH LARGER and more impressive collections, which were only had through dropping several pretty pennies. But, still... I wonder, how much are you spending on cigars? However you think best to describe it - i.e. how much / how often, etc.

I'll get it started. Hopefully my wife wont stumble on this post... ;)

I'm pretty new to it all... I'm in my second year of cigars. I have about 300+ cigars. I find I'm spending 300-400 every 2-3 of months at this point. So, over the course of the year, it probably works out to about 100-200/month. I'm about to drop another 1k on a BIG order. Got a vino and want to continue to stock it with quality smokes.

What's your story?

First 'real' answer. Thanks for the honesty.

I wasn't sure about asking this sort of thing... and I guess I maybe shouldn't have. I guess it may be almost like asking how much money someone makes or something.... but I don't think so. Because no matter how much money people make, they all spend it very differently. If you understand that, I don't see what the big deal is actually divulging a real amount.

i dont think his intent was to see who the big spenders were and/or for people to brag. I think the intent was to see how much people deem apropriate per month in general.

Some people said 300.00 per month, for me that would be out of the question because i could not bring myself to spend 300 on cigars per month... and stay married :r:r:r

My wife and I have a great arangement, she doesn't nag me about what or when I buy cigar wise and I don't ask her about her knitting. She knits with a lot of 'high' end yarns and has a stash, I'm guessing in the thousands of dollars... (she just finished a one skein hat out of $75.00 wool from Japan)

Not a big deal man. Sometimes on this forum you must explain exactly what you want to know and why you are asking. Its important because there are people here that troll around and ask worthless questions either looking to stir the pot and/or start scuffless.

we are all hooked and im sure we all feel that we are spending more than we should or just about there! The best way to have your "buck" extend further would be to check out the daily deals that exist on most major sites!!! Save yourself some cash and try some good smokes!! or just buy what you like and enjoy them!!

To OP, The amount/month veries widely, depending on overtime, bills, and what I can hide from the wife. prolly about $40-50 bucks a month on average. Some times I can sneak a stick or three from the local B&M.

What do they say??? It isn't the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean?

Seriously though, spending varies from month to month, some months I buy almost nothing except for a few singles from the B&M or a sampler or two online (October/September/August) other months (July/June/May) I buy a several boxes, but usually there's a line I do not cross no matter what and that's about $175 unless something very interesting catches my eye. November and December present problems though because of deals and discounts for the holidays.

Scott, is this the part where we have the interventionalist conversation about "quality vs. quantity"?

Using arbitrary figures of course, you could spend 2 grand on 500.00 hookers 4 times, or 50 bucks..... er... hell, nevermind.

since april 09 its gone waaayy down, and it was mainly because I just didn't want to support the tax in anyway possible (and I still think the other shoe has yet to drop). But that attitude only lasted so long, what with new smokes coming out all the time. But I kept the frugality of it going, and have since really gotten into some amazing cheap smokes. So:

Prior SCHIP - sky was the limit, some months were multiple (upwards of 2-5) boxes anywhere from a min. of $100.00 and a max of $300.00 once

Post SCHIP - most months $0.00 with a general max of $50.00

I have come to really enjoy the thrill of the hunt for amazing cheap smokes... especially when you learn that most of the stuff you love is made from Nicaraguan Aganorsa leaf anyway.... lot to be had of that for wicked cheap.

This question got me curious, so I went back over my records and was pleasantly surprised at the result.
Since 1/1/09, I've only spent a total of about $1,400.

Oh, plus the $60 I'm about to spend on 2 Padilla Commerative Samplers (4@ of Padilla 1932, 1948 & 1968 Robustos for $29.99 at Cigars Int'l, using the free shipping code).:D

It really depends on the month and what else needs to be paid. I would love to just spend spend spend as there are many things I would like to have/try.

Some months I have spent only $50, some I have spent over $700.

in my case,
i never bought my cigar using my fix salary.

lucky i got part time job as designer/wedding photographer... and normally i spend around 20% from my profit... say for one job i get around $1000..then i'll spend $200 for cigars...

saying that.. i dun have lot of cigars... coz for nc they will coast me around $25-$50 per stick... and for cc...$30-$70 perstick...

still..people around me keep saying that i'm overspend for my cigar...because why? normally for a complete meal..for luch..just cost you aroud $5-$7 and the big mac meal set will cost you $11.85..so just go figure...

Pipe smoking is way cheaper. Say if you wanted to have 4 pipes (1 aromatic, 1 english, 1 VaPer, 1 VA) a pound of tobacco lasts me a long time. Figure at around $30 for a pound, after your pipes are purchased your cost is very minimal. My only pipe expense monthly is buying tins for the lottery on here.

I bought a tin of the 2008 Christmas cheer last week only because the 2009 came out and that 2008 tin was the last one at my B&M. Before that I haven't bought anything for myself since March or April. At that time I spent maybe $200 in tobacco.

After this post I'm wondering why I don't smoke pipes more :hm
