View Full Version : Unemployed Banter
I thought this might be a good place for those of us who are unemployed to post up links to job services, websites etc and post encouragement and helpful hints for our brothers/sisters who are in this boat.
I put it in the networking section so if you want to post up a little bit about what you are looking for, maybe it can be useful.
I'll post up some of the more common job search sites and a few I just started using. If you have had success with one or another, post that up.

I was suddenly and unexpectedly laid off 2 years ago and i found indeed.com to be a very good resource as it scans most of the other sources. This is approaching a tough time of the year for job hunting so if you find yourself there don't get discouraged as things usually pick up in mid January after the Holiday Season.

Kevin - Can you provide a brief description of what this site is about?
Sure.....indeed is basically a search engine of job postings. From my understanding, it searches many different resources and can search based on keywords and geographical area. The links provided will take you to where indeed found the job listing.
Sean - What is The Ladders?
From their website.
Essentially a 100k+ management/executive job site

Try craigslist too.
Update to comply with Peter's specs:
www.craigslist.org
Community based job postings. Contains lots of part-time listings and "gigs" as well as full time.

+1, pretty good networking site, with access to a lot of professional/job-related forums & other tools. Could be especially helpful in connecting with colleagues or other contacts in a job search

Word of advice-use facebook and linkedin as a tool for finding contact names in hiring roles. It's a good way to at least get someone to speak to in order to get your resume to the hiring manager rather than just trusting the HR submission route.

Hoping that horizon is near and clear, my Brother.
Picked up a consulting gig today. It's not a continuous thing, but it will come around occaisionally and will be a nice addition to the resume.

Finally landed a job!:noon
I went outside my comfort zone and skills and got into a warehouse job. Not anywhere near what I have done in the past, but, it looks the same on the resume and it closes the gap.
Perserverance pays off.

This link isn't to help you find a job, but a good way to spend spare time. When you're unemployed, there seems to be plenty of that. I *hated* sitting at home just waiting. Some of these things can lead to networking opportunities as well, and provide resume eye candy too. Not to mention, you're able to help some people out.
p.s. congrats on the job!
