I was really surprised by this lighter. It's a very simple and basic lighter that gets the job done time after time. It lights up on first click. The top opens/closes very solid and crisp. It has all the standard features: adjustable flame, re-fill/purge port, etc.

It beats the hell out of my Nibo and other cheap lighters costing 2-4x as much.

As you can see, this lighter is built like a TANK.

Verdict:

I've had mine for over a year now and I'm very happy with the lighter. It lights up every time. For $3-5, this is possibly the best lighter/deal out there. I picked up a few more for backup but I'm still using this one. If any of you guys don't have one, go out and get one. Hell, for the price get a couple. :tu

Awesome lighter. I have had mine for about three years now and I just cannot kill it! It takes beating after beating, gets scratched, dropped, and I always use cheap fluid and it continues to work. Great product with awesome durability. To top it off, I think I paid $1.98 for it!!

Where can I pick one up?

As the proud owner of about 12 of them I think they are one of the best performing best built products in the smoking industry.:tu Downside is they are top operated and don't perform well with ring gauges over about 50. They have been available at Walmart for $2.96 for a long time but seems Walmarts are not carrying them much anymore. :td Also they can sometimes be found for $3 at Big Lots. Ronson sells them for $5.50 online: http://www.ronsonstore.com/jetlite.aspx

Fleabay usually has them in quantities at a good price too.

Only downside to the JetLites is that you can't see how much fuel is left.

I have had 3 different ones. All of them died within 2-3 months of usage. I use quadruple lava fuel, so it's not that. To me they have never been that great of a bargain. DE has some nicer looking clear tank models and they have lasted me years.

Actually that may be it :D

I used good fuel when I first started using mine too. Had some issues and read somewhere to just use Zippo fuel. Since changing they light first time every time :tu

I have a dozen laying around all over the place so I never need to look too far for one. When one runs out I refill it and throw it back in a pile somewhere.

Not many crackheads here in the mountains but they sold the heck out of them at the local non-super Walmart before recently discontinuing them. Must be useful for the Meth Industry too cause we sure enough got plenty of that here.

I've used Ronson fuel and the more expensive stuff with no problems. The only thing I've noticed is when it's really cold out, I need to hold it in my hand for a few seconds to warm it up before lighting.

Just give 'ol bottle a good squeeze! I have been trying to fill it up with butane, burn off the old stuff, then let it sit for a while, repeat. right now, when I can get it to light, it burns more like a chepo bic lighter than a butane/torch lighter.

Try filling it with butane, let sit upright awhile, then let the butane out through the filling valve. Hopefully this will purge it.

new to forums..just a question about refilling- I'm new to refilling butane lighters.

I followed a youtube video instruction- pushing the valve to release whatever air out first, then pumping the butane canister a few times into the lighter.

My jet lite lights up again..but only on high. On low, it won't light up & I'm certain it maintained a smaller flame on low when it was new. Is this normal?

Is this a sign I haven't filled it full? (when it was getting close to low..i noticed that it wouldn't light on low but still lit on high).

I've purged & tried refilling a few times now with the same result.

Just curious..thanks.

One thing I would say about purging is to make sure not to just let go of the valve after you hear the big release of gas. After that big release get your ear right up to the lighter and wait till you hear the soft hissing stop. That soft hissing is the key in purging a lighter because it is not the butane but the excess oxygen in the tank that prevents the fuel from mixing and lighting properly. I personally don't "pump" the canister into it as I feel that it can insert oxygen and not fill it completely. Instead I just press the canister firmly into the lighter until I hear it hissing from overfilling(typically just a few seconds into the filling, depends on size of tank) then release it and wait for a few minutes before attempting to light it again as the gas has to warm up to room temp before being effective. Also turning the lighter to "low" while purging/filling may aid you, then after it is warmed up and ready to go, you can turn it back up to your desired flame height. Hope this helps! And welcome to the forums!

Well, in the interest of accuracy, please remember that oxygen is what causes butane and other things to burn. I think you mean to say "air" gets into the lighter. Since air is about 80/20 nitrogen/oxygen, it can dilute the fuel. If you were truly inserting only pure oxygen, you would be making a rocket.:)

I knew I would get a little flak for that :). Don't know why I wanted to sound smart and said Oxygen when I meant air. Thanks for the correction!

thanks. will keep that in mind as i refill again.

So, the jet lite 'should' produce a small flame on low right...not lighting on low is a sign of low fuel/improper refilling?

A lot of Walmarts do not carry them anymore. Also the ones that do carry them often run out, that happens to the Walmart close to me. Most of the time they will be hanging on a pegboard in the checkout line amongst a lot of junk including the bics. Or if they have a smoke section they will be hanging around that checkout. They are in a blue cardboard package and trust me you have to look hard to find them. Most of the employees have no clue what you are talking about if you ask them - a real surprise there! Sometimes you can find them hanging on the checkout aisles at Big Lots for $3.00 but there again hit or miss just like Walmart.

A buddy of mine and I found them in the tobacco isle at Walmart. We asked an employee if they had them and they said they didn't carry them anymore, but there were a few left with all the butane bottles.

Seems like they can be a hit or miss depending on the area...

Why is it that a cheapie that works at first seems to work forever, and the expensive ones work great for a while, then get all glitchy and unreliable? Drives me nuts!
As for the Ronson, I suggest buying a couple at least. I ordered 2 from Ronson ($5 each) and one works great, the other refused to light after the first refill. Yeah I purged a couple times, and tried all the usual drills that work. Then I took it apart trying a trick I read about to change the adjuster limit...can't tell if that worked as the lighter never lit again. I get no gas release sound when depressing the "button". But for the price, I can't complain too much.
Long live the cheap lighters!

Try putting the fuel can in the top of the lighter, this should clean out the dirty jets. That is usually the problem when you have a wide flame.

If anyone wants.....My local has a ton of them...just picked up another 3 tonight after reading they got bought out by zippo.....I can make a run for the BOTL's that do not have access to them. Mine were $2.97 ea and shipping should be less than a dollar in a padded package.

If anyone needs access to these little gems.

I know that I am new, but just thought I would offer.....not so new on some other boards...

Try putting the fuel can in the top of the lighter, this should clean out the dirty jets. That is usually the problem when you have a wide flame.

Did the inverted can trick and the lighter works like new. Thanks for the tip.

I sent that thing out the 13th I guess it had to go nearly across the country. Glad it made it in good condition.
