Well last night VS and I met up for a few cigars, and I picked his brain a bit, looking for something different to try in the world of pipe tobacco, and Joe suggested Frog Morton. This would be my first crack at what would be considered an English blend. Opening the tin was an experience for me. Of the few tins I had opened previously, nothing quite packed a punch like this. An aroma of smoky bbq filled my nose. The tobacco was dark and oily looking.
Tonight, it was cool out, so I took a few pinches and filled up a bowl and took a walk. Lighting up, the first pull was overpowering. Being an inexperienced pipe smoker, I had never had anything with as much flavor. Smokey, sweet and my first latakia. As I continued to walk, I began to enjoy the flavors more and more, as I had become more accustomed to overwhemling flavors like nothing I had ever tried before.
Now I'm not sure if its much of a review, as I'm still so new at this, and not really sure of what I'm smoking, but an hour or so later, i still taste the sweet smoky flavors on my tongue. It was a really good bowl, something I think once my pallet becomes accustomed to, I will very much enjoy.

A review is a review Chris, and the main thing is it sounds as if 'you' enjoyed the Frog Morton, and that's what really counts:tu
McClelland' has Frog Morton, Frog Morton on the Bayou, Frog Morton on the Town, and Frog Morton across the Pond.

I love english blends! Havent been able to try Frog Morton, however. I'll keep my eye out for it!

If you enjoy Latakia, you'll most likely enjoy Frog Morton. My personal favorite is on the town. Glad you enjoyed it.

Across the Pond is the only one I've tried and I really like it
some other McClelland's Englishes I enjoy are Bombay Court and AM Pipe
both are excellent

I like the write-up on the Bombay Court. So much so, that the Bombay Extra really caught my eye:)

I should probably write proper reviews for some of these blends, I've been slacking on that
After smoking both Frog Morton and On the Town a couple of years ago, I decided to experiment. Mixed 2 parts OTT with 1 part Froggie and the results were so good I have smoked neither on their own since. The OTT mellows the froggie just enough that the blend can be smoked all day.

I'm not a big latakia fan but I do enjoy Frog Morton. Nice and mild.
Had my first bowl of Frog and enjoyed it. I think I will pick up the other Frogs to try as well.
Had a bowl last night. I did enjoy it thoroughly, but mostly, for now, because it is such
a light English Blend. My friend Greg told me that he loves it and that he is a Latakia ho. I am still
trying to figure out what is what in the profiles of these blends, so I am not sure how to pin down
that flavor that shines in this stuff. I am not sure if it is Latakia or Burley that I am going to have to get
used to, but ONE of them or both is certainly an aquired taste for a cigar smoker. I can tell I will
like it eventually, but for now it is rather blunt, lol.

I've only smoked F.M on the Bayou. It's a pretty good smoke but I prefer McClelland's 5110, especially considering the price, around $2.39/ounce in bulk.

is 5110 the bulk version of Frog Morton?

I've read that on various forums, Frank. Don't know if it's accurate or not.
It seems to me that FM on Bayou (I've not had the other blends) is a milder version of 5110. For me, the price difference makes 5110 a much better value.

Sounds like a question for the "New Pipe Smoker With A Question? Ask an Old Fart (http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6366)" thread:D

Frog Morton on the Bayou has become my go to tobacco, I have tried traditional froggie, and it just did not do much for me. I still would like to try the other two.

Bumparoo. Picked up some Frog Morton on the Bayou. I prefer the 'Across the Pond', but this is pretty comparable with a bit more perique in place of the english. A bit spicier. Smells sweet with some burning leaves thrown in. Great Autumn smoke.
