AKA what y'all drink with your stogies??

Just started in the Scotch game, and still warming up to it but I definatly have learned to get past the burning sensation and taste the flavors in the past month or so... SoCo, coke and coffee are all favorites of mine with a cigar, but when I'm doing a review I usually stick with water.

Don't wanna leave our other tobacco product loves out, so what does everybody drink with pipes or cigs or whatever?

A good drink makes all the difference for me...

Coke, Esspreso, San Pellegrino flavored water. Depending on what cigar I smoke may determine what I drink with it.

Cuban coffee (I really need to learn how to make this at home)
Scotch - The Macallan 18, Laphroaig, The Dalmore...
Bourbon/Whiskey - Woodford Reserve, Blanton's, Stranahan's, Single Barrel Jack Daniels...
Rum/Rhum - Ron Zacapa 23, Pyrat XO, Seven Fathoms, Barbancourt...
Water

The liquors are all drunk with a few drops of water, no ice. I also drink them very sparingly, just enough with each sip to coat my tongue. Sometimes two ounces will last longer than a cigar.

When I choose a pairing, I almost do it subconsciously. I don't think "the floral notes in this beverage will complement the cedar undertones in this cigar" or anything so lofty. It's more like I choose the drink and the cigar independently based on individual merit, or simply based on what I feel like drinking/smoking at that time.

Daily, I drink ice water along with my smokes. The palate refresh suits me pretty well.

"On Occasion" (read: with friends) it's definitely high end cognacs (now that Sarkozy's doing some good over there I'll allow myself a bit of French finery.)

Primarily I'm a Scotch drinker, preferring the peaty Islays. Unfortunately I haven't found a cigar that can stand up to my preferred Scotch, Ardbeg.

I've tried a couple things, but when I take a drink of Scotch, any cigar I've tried to pair it with just tastes like warm air.

In the morning I often have strong black coffee with my cigars. In the afternoon it might be ice water or a beer.

In the evening it is usually ice water accompanied by good tequila (Don Julio) or Single Malt Scotch (Glenmorangie).

If I am out with a lot of people I usually end up drinking what they are drinking -- usually gin and tonic or bloody mary's.

I don't chug the alcohol, I drink it slowly and enjoy the taste with my cigar.

When I first started frequenting this (and the old) forum, I saw that a lot of brothers and sisters drank Coke. I had never been a coke drinker, in fact hated it. But the lovely Mrs. Brew likes it, so I figured what the heck. I was shocked to discover how much I enjoyed the pairing. I still enjoy a beer or occasional glass of wine with my cigar, but by far my most frequent selection is coke.

Always have a glass of water (but I usually have water nearby even when I'm not smoking :tu)

If I decide to pair my smoke with something extra, I'll add: Morning smokes (usually Conny's) go great with coffee; if it's the afternoon, then rootbeer is my choice; and evening smokes will be paired with beer or port.

Single Malt Scotch - Preferably Lagavulin - in an appropriate glass (see note below) with 3 cubes of ice max. (Ice Cubes should be made with distilled water) - Perfect! Everyday Lower Cost Substitute Scotch could include: Laphroaig, Talisker, Caol Ila or in a jam The Glenlivet will work.:tu

I've been having some nice Sam Adams Octoberfest with my gars lately and find that this beer goes very well with a spicier cigar. Been pairing this beer up with a nice Perdomo Criollo 10th Anniversary Torpedo or even a nice RP Edge Corojo.

Earl Grey tea, slightly sweetened, and cold, but NOT ICED!!!! Kills the tastebuds.

For the hard stuff, I like a nice Kentucky Bourbon (like there is any other kind of bourbon....ha:dr) Bookers, Rip Van Winkle with a powerhouse cigar like a JdN Antano. Sometimes though, like with a Coronado Lancero by La Flor, ya gots to break out some Bushmills, they just seem to be made for each other.

Beer, like wine, takes some careful consideration (at least for me) to pair it properly, you get a too heavy beer, or a too dry wine with a cigar that tends to be a bit dry on the palate (like a JdN Celebracion), and it's a recipe for disaster.

Just my :2
