I was reading another thread about covering the smell of cigars when smoking indoors and it got me thinking... How many people use a Lamp Berger? I have had this lamp for five years now and I think it works excellent. They make many different scents for it. The one I am currently burning is a lime citrus scent. Works great. Normally after smoking in my cave I light the lamp and leave it burning for a good half hour (with the exhaust fan off). Seems to do the trick.

Anybody else using one of these? Mine is the Provencal which has a picture of an olive branch on the front.

You can see the light amount of smoke coming from the top

I have one, use it in winter, when it's too cold to exhaust air out of the window with a fan. It, along with various other devices, takes care of the smell in the room quite well.

Actually, I just ordered a Lampe Berger yesterday! They sell them at my local cigar shop, and they also use them there... they work really well from what I can tell (from their performance at the shop).

I got the swirl lamp with the sea mist fragrance. I'm pretty excited. :D

So these things really work? With the cooler weather heading this way I am dreading heading to the garage with a heat lamp. My office would be much nicer. They eliminate the smell from the carpet and walls?

I've had one for several years. Its effective for distributing the scent gently around. I'm personally skeptical of any catalytic effect that they claim.

BTW, the expensive fuel is basically 91% isopropyl alcohol. So, you can buy the alcohol at Walmart cheap and add a little fragrance. I like essential oil of lemon.

Repeat: 91% isopropyl - not, the more common 80%.

Where does one get the oils? Wally World also?

We sell all the Lampe Berger stuff at the shop where I work. I haven't fired one up yet though to see how they work. Maybe I'll bring a small one home and try it out...

Theres a lot of smokers who use the "Neutral" scent after the smoke, and they swear by it.

They do have some scents in the craft department. I've been using essential oils from health food stores. I think similar stuff is used in soap making. Try looking around online. I think my last bottle was actually from eBay.

I would say it compares to spraying lysol in the bathroom... if you spray enough it will mask the smell. :D

I believe they make a scent just for covering smoke. Most of the others work well but are not intended for masking smoke in particular.

Andrew, you can pick up a knock off for a lot less. Cheaper if you want to go that route.

Also, you can just buy the wick and burner assembly and stick it in a bottle. Do a Google on "Lampe Berger kits"

My wife bought me one last month. I use it every now and then. Seems to work pretty good, its just a matter of finder the right scent that suites your nose. Some of them are terrible.

HOLY CR@P!! Some of those are $2000. I put the best you can find electrostatic air filter on my HVAC system that was about half that and it does an astonishing job of removing smoke odors AND allergens down to 1 micron.

How long do you guys leave yours burning? I just read somewhere that it's recommended to burn for only 1/2 hr.. Does this damage the lamp if you burn it any longer? I had no idea you had to light it and let it burn for 2 minutes every time you use it.

Just picked one up from my local B & M (Emerson's at Greenbriar) for a great deal yesterday during their Christmas open house. I got the lamp and a bottle of fuel (500ml/16.90 fl. oz.) for $40.00.

We have one as well. Haven't used it in a while, but used to all the time in the cigar room. I too made our own fuel. Just make sure you get the 91% stuff as regular 70% will NOT work. I got different essential oils from the health food section at our grocer's. So much cheaper than what they expect you to buy. I picked ours up at a Pier 1 and they actually wanted $15 a bottle for the fuel. I bought all they had once when it was on sale for $4.50/bottle then found the recipe online to make our own even cheaper and did so ever since.

Keep a watch for sales as they are nice little items to have around.

I just received my first 'burger' lamp & am already impressed with how quickly it has freshened our place. I haven't used it to remove unwanted odors, but I can see it working better than incense or candles. Does anyone else think of Hyacinth Bucket when mentioning Lampe Berger?

Like wine Hal?:r

I've had a few for a while now. I light them before smoking, let it glow orange and put the difusser cap on until I'm done smoking.

I smoke at least one cigar a day in the house. Sometimes 5. Sometimes with friends smoking too. My girl also smokes cigarettes. At any given day you would never be able to tell.

So, I guess I'm a fan!
