Bought my first pipe at Edwards in the San Fernando Valley in the earky 80's, and smoked bulk English and black cavendish from the same shop... until I started reading the reviews here and on tobacco reviews.
Got a tin of McClelland Syrian Full Balkan last week, and have smoked it every day for the last five days. Lots of virgina, but if there's any latakia in there I can't taste it.
Was expecting something closer to an English mixture, needless to say I'm more that a bit let down.
Is this tobacco a typical Balkan?
What would you have me try?

After reading this... Latakia (http://www.glpease.com/Articles/Latakia.html), it would seem that what I've mistaken for virginia is the Syrian Latakia.
That said... this is still not what I thought a Balkan mixture would be.

Balkan Sasieni is good Balkan blend. That was one of the first blends I ever smoked. C&D makes a good Balkan blend called Super Balkan. The best thing to do is just find different Balkan type blends and find one you like.

:tpd: Both of these are very good and I would also suggest Squadron Leader, C&D's Odessa and Red Odessa, Bill Bailey's Balkan, and GLP Odyssey. Yummy!

The review' of the GLP Odyssey on TobaccoReview all look great. I think a purchase of a tin would be a valuable addition:tu
