Was just curious. I'm quitting cigarettes (13 days cig free!) and wanted to know what other's experiences were. I've already been surprised by the number of people who don't smoke cigarettes who enjoy cigars, so let's see a CA wide poll.

Back when I was in high school I was a Copenhagen and Redman fanatic, grew out of dip and spit went tobacco free for 3 years and my bro in law turned me onto a Monte #2 and I was hooked!

Smoked cigarettes for almost 15 years and every once in awhile when I'm with my friends back home I will chew. I really like the chew that comes in a twist like rope.

No more cigarettes for a little over 4 years now. :tu

Good point!

I should include pipes with cigars, specifically as "luxury tobacco". Or however you want to put it.

Good point!

I should include pipes with cigars, specifically as "luxury tobacco". Or however you want to put it.

I guess from that standpoint they are similar, but that's really about it. They are obviously very different in the manner in which they are used, the tobacco is handled & processed very differently, and the characteristics of the smoke are very different simply due to the way the pipe functions, even from pipe style to pipe style the same tobacco will smoke totally differently.

Anyway, I just see them as very different than cigars.

I voted Yes-Other 'cause I love my pipes too! :pi

I don't think snuff, chew and pipes belong in the same category any more than I think cigars and pipes belong in the same category, but from a semantic point of view, yes, you are correct, for this survey, pipes should probably be an "Other".

I agree with you in a sense, but the way that I'm thinking about this poll (and it's really helping me, actually) there is a difference between tobacco for enjoyment and tobacco for nicotine.

This could be misguided (bordering on judgemental, but bear with me) but I see dip, cigarettes, and (I guess) snuff to be for the nicotine, whereas cigars, pipe smoking and hookahs to generally be for pleasure and recreation purposes.

Am I off base with this thinking?

Ok, now I understand where you are coming from. The poll makes more sense to me now, I was looking at it from a totally different perspective. Thanks for the explanation.

As for judgemental? I don't know, I've never tried dip, chew or snuff so I have no idea how their addiction cycle works. I suppose they are more of a nicotine based addiction than anything else based on what I've read in medical articles.

When I was just a kid playing baseball I saw alot of the pro's chewing tobacco so I had said to my Dad something about wanting to chew . So one day he went over to our neighbors house who's nephew was in town for a visit and he happened to be a truck driver . He chewed Redman . So Dad had him come over and show me what to do . I took a pinch about the size of my thumb , placed it in my mouth between cheek and gums . Held it there for a couple minutes and then tried to spit . Got spit all over my chin and on my t-shirt . And then the burn started , spit the whole wad of tobacco out and tried for a while to get that nasty taste out of my mouth . Awful tasting stuff to me then . Never tried it again . Oh and my Dad and Larry were laughing pretty hard at me . Think I was about 12 at the time . To bad it wasn't captured on video , didn't really have video cameras back in 1979-80 like there are now .

I smoke a cigarette now and then (2 a day at the heaviest) because I enjoy the nicotine rush occasionally and I enjoy smoking tobacco in general. Never could get addicted to it though. I enjoy clove cigarettes too.

Snuff (nasal) I use very seldomly, but it comes in handy on long drives when I'm tired. Never chewed in my life.

ex cigarette smoker checking in.

It was actually cigars that got me to quit smoking cigarettes, and I didn't just replace one with the other. I didn't smoke at all for two months. Now I only smoke between 1-3 cigars per week, generally on Friday and/or Saturday.

Gave up cigs a few years ago. The last time I smoked a pipe must have been back in the mid seventies. Trying a pipe again has crossed my mind on occasion, but I think I'll probably stick to cigars from here on out.

Smoked for 15 years but it was killing me. I stopped 3 years ago. Cigars are damaging also but I average 2 every 3 days rather than sucking 20 or so down in a day. Better for my asthma.

Yeah, it sucks. I bought a bunch, but my B&M still has two cubes in the back room and will sell them to me for $1.99 a pack whenever I want them. Like I said I have one now and then, so I should be good for a while fortunately. But I'll miss them.

first thing I smoked was a cigarette. That was back when I was like 15. I maybe smoked 5 packs of them in my whole life. But I always was interested in cigars. I have tried chew before and had a good experience with it. But I stick with cigars now days and I try to limit myself to no more than 3 cigars a week.

Cigars were harder to get when I wasn't old enough to buy tobacco because I didn't know anyone who smoked em. But It is all I am into now that I am 18.

You are now as free as you will ever be. But you have to stay away from your triggers. Mine was weed. I quit very effectively
many times, and had no need to ever start up again. But if I ever went anywhere knowing that I would be smoking a joint or
taking home weed, I would get some cigs. One called for the other. 6 or 8 months of smoke-freeness down the tubes.
For many, social alcohol is the trigger. Could you stay away from it? That doesn't mean you will go back to smoking, but
you will be tested like you can't believe. Patches, gum...all that crap is useless. You only need to stop, and show some
backbone, and stay away from triggers for a while.

I've used most kinds of tobacco at one time or another...

Started smoking cigarettes in the military...quit after about 5 months as I found it rather pointless and I didn't really enjoy it, it was more of something I just did to get out of work for a bit and BS with some of the guys.

I chewed in the military as well. Did it at tech school, passed the time in the dorms with a dip in (broke a couple of the rules in the dorms...) again it was purely social. Quit after tech school.

I occasionally will smoke hookah with a few friends, but it's a pretty irregular thing. I'm not a huge fan, but I don't hate it either.

I've used snus. I kind of enjoyed it, and I may buy some more in the future...

I use snuff in the autumn/winter. I also talk my friends into trying it, most of them like it. I have to thank ReplicantArgent and ScottishSmoker for getting me into the world of snuff. I'll be ordering some more of it soon, seeing as its starting to get to be that time of year again.

I have a decent collection of pipes, and I usually smoke them in the cooler months. My piping has been kicking up again, and I like it :tu

Been smoking cigars for about the last three years. Had a lot of fun with it, met a lot of good people through it, one of my better decisions of things to do in the last three years. I don't intend to quit, ever. Although my smoking has dropped a bit since I've gone into the military, I still have a nice stockpile, and I very much enjoy the hobby.

I've cut back drastically with cigars because of where I live, then picked up with cigarettes. >_< I've done the e-cigs and they help with cig cravings (usually at work or driving.) I've never gotten to the pack-a-day smoker status so the e-cig is more of a toy than anything else. It's more of a e-hookah because the "juice" I have is fruit and "Red Bull" flavored. :su

Cigars in the summer and the pipe when it gets too cold to smoke outside. Been smoking a pipe on & off for 'several' years. New to cigars this summer. Tried chew once. Never again!! Tried cigs for a week when I was in high school, didn't like it.
