Saw my Dr. as my BP is alittle high, and getting short on breath, time to get off the cigarettes he says....so I have a little help doing it with Champex. Told him not giving up my cigars and he said that was okay. Wish me luck, as I start on Sunday with the champex, and have to pick a day, 8 to 14 days from then and be done with the smokes, and continue treatment for 12 weeks.:tf

Good Luck!
The first 10 years is the hardest. :D Dont use the nicotine gum.... ever. Helped me kick the habit for good but... only by replacing it.

say the hell with the pills, try to find someone in your area that does this, link below. one treatment and you dont want butts anymore,I walked into his office 6 years ago and have not had a butt since I smoked a whole pack the day I went there, and crunched the last 2 in the pack, walked out a free man.I have sent a dozen people to him since and they have all quit, one older lady smoked 4 packs a day for 40 years.I tried the gum the pills {zyban} the patch none of them worked anyway good luck ita not easy quitting {I smoked 25 years} but this guys therapy was magic, a little zap in the ear thats it takes 2 minutes....just trying to help..:2...link....http://drnasso.com/
probably for the best. quitting wasn't really as hard as everyone makes it seem. I used the patch and never felt any physical or emotional discomfort. made me wonder why I hadn't quit sooner.
The hardest part about quitting isn't the actual quitting itself but fighting the urge to cheat. It is so easy to cheat and fall back into the habit. You bum a smoke from a friend, then you start to borrow a smoke every time you're around someone who is smoking and eventually you get tired of borrowing other people's cigarettes and buy yourself a pack.
cigars have kept me on the right track. I didn't smoke cigars while I was quitting cigarettes though. Probably didn't have any for 2-3 months. yes, it was hell. I didn't miss the cigs at all, but jeez. no cigars!!?
now I smoke between 1-4 cigars per week, mostly on weekends and it is probably the one thing I look forward to the most about Friday nights.
good luck! I don't know how that Chantix might affect your cigar experiences though. It might be a good idea to at least suspend cigar smoking temporarily until you're done with the medication.

I quit years ago and was at a bar with a buddy that stepped outside to have a cigarette...so I bummed one...tasted gross and I will never go back...especially after smoking so many great cigars. Good Luck!

It's true! I had the same experience. When you no longer have the physical addiction to smoke, having a cigarettes does absolutely nothing for you and just tastes bad.

Chantix is amazing stuff man, I have had many patients quit no problem at all while using that med. It is alot better than getting wellbutrin or another " happy pill " to curb the issues while trying to ride it out.

Good luck and way to go! I quit cigarettes 23 years ago and it was rough. Three weeks of chewing gum and I had to stop that because my mouth tasted like rubber all the time. To this day I don't chew gum anymore. I didn't pick up cigars until around '04 (I grew up around them with my great-grandfather) and never have had a craving for a cigarette. The hardest part about it is the psychological part, wanting that smoke after eating, while driving, etc. No regrets at all here.
I had a heart stent put in this summer and I told all of the heart specialists about my occasional cigar and they didn't care a bit about those. I go through a lot of cigars during the warm months but few during the cold months.

It sounds tough, but I've found it's easier than I thought it would be.
Today is day #28 without a cig for me, so I'm in the depths of my quitting right now. I've been to a herf and had a few cigars, but no patches, gum, hypnosis, or anything. The cravings are almost completely gone. It's the reflex habit now that I'm dealing with. Looking for my cigs when I leave the house before I remember that I don't have any anymore. Reaching into my purse when I get in the car only to discover I don't have any in there because I QUIT!! :D Those'll go away with time I'm sure.
Stay the course and remember why you're doing this.

Hope things go easy for you Dave, your health is the most important thing. And hopefully the cigars will help take the edge off - nice of the doc to not pressure you about that.

Good luck Dave. Just a word of caution, I've used a fair bit of Champix with my patients. It can depress your mood. If it does, you might have to try something else.

I quit cold turkey with an attitude many years ago and then became a cigarette hater. My anti-cigarette attitude has mellowed out since then. I still don't like cigarettes at all but I sure like cigars. Kick the butts, you'll never regret it. :tu

23 years cigarette free, after a 2-3 pack a day habit. The "want-to" is the most important part. If that's there, it's really much simpler than most make it out to be.
I have had 2 hits since that time, and it's not something that I'll ever return to. Pure tobacco for me now, not all that chemically enhanced crap.
Best of luck, Dave.
