Al, I'm recovering from a week long head cold and it has sucked big time! No cigars for a week is killing me!

I recommend Musinex (spelling may be off) and Theraflu along with some nasal spray in the evenings to prevent a dried out throat from not being able to breath through your nose while sleeping. :2

Zicam worked ok for me last time.

Normally I drink a gallon of OJ for the Vitamin C.

I do MucinexD and Zicam Extreme Congestion Relief (nasal gel). Last time I had a cold for 3-4 days, started taking these and felt better later that day, and almost human the day after.

I usually start taking Emergen-C as soon as symptoms start. Buy a box and I will take 3 a day till the cold is gone. It always helps me.

You can find the stuff at the grocery or drug store usually.

Hope you feel better Al!

For the record, none of these suggested "remedies" has be proven to work. The placebo effect can be very strong though.

If you have a fever, go to the doctor to make sure you don't have H1N1.

Apply scotch. Alcohol kills bacteria. Proven fact.

It may not make you feel better, but you won't care.

I like Mucinex DM and Afrin like mentioned above. Sometimes some Tussin in there for good measure. :D

Not much help here, cause I have a bad habit of never taking anything for what ails me. Even rarely take anything for headaches. Don't know why just don't.

Yep. I have found that it will last longer if I take anything. But that's just me.

Vitamin C seems to help speed up the recovery a little, and at any rate won't hurt. Just my experience.

As far as relief from the symptoms, the only thing I've found that works for me is DayQuil and NyQuil in the gel caps.

Regardless, drink liquids so you don't get dehydrated.

Hang in there.

Go to the store and get a gallon or two of orange juice. This handles the vitamin C and the liquids.
Other than that, you do TWO things. Do not go to work. Spend ALL DAY AND NIGHT in one of two places.
BED or a HOT BATH.
Don't watch TV, don't eat, don't smoke cigarettes. It is OK to take a decongestant. Also, if you want less
chills and aches, WHEEZE up your pleghm and do not cough it up til it comes almost up. Wheezing clears as
good as a cough and does not hurt. Plus it is fun. Unless someone has to hear you. But you pay for those
coughs and all the snot you swallow. The swallowing is where the sore throat comes from.

Not totally disguested yet. Google up some crime scene photos.

Hope you get to feeling better. I live with colds and flus as I move from school to school through out the year. Nothing but damn germ factories. Other than treating symptoms, last year I tried the Zicam nasal gel. Worked quite well for me for 2 different sessions. The colds were not as long or irritating.

On the other hand they had to pull it last year as it could make you go deaf or blind (I forget which). So when I use it up this year nit sure wjat I'll use.

Pfft to all you peeps with germy little ankle biters.

My grandfather swore by Jim Beam with crushed peppermint in it. To the point that the Beam looked almost pink. It is not a very tasty drink, but you get the first one down and you really don't care what they taste like after that, or that you have a cold.

Al,
This may sound like an old wive's tail but I assure you, when my wife and I have a bad cold, this does seem to help shake it faster.

Get a bunch of limes and squeeze them into a little pot.
Heat the crap out of it until it nearly starts boiling. Add honey.

Hold your nose and drink it as hot as you can. Take a couple of aspirin or cold medicine with it.
After you drink it, jump in bed and sweat your butt off.
Crap works. You will feel better.

Didn't see this first. Same thing I guess but more drinkable with tea.

I use "airborne" at the first signs of a cold and use it every 4 hours IF the cold lasts more then the initial day. The honey and lemon works well too. Lastly, make sure you drink lots of tea/water/O.J., etc. and get plenty of sleep. Hope you feel better!

Very Good Advice! Hope you feel better, Bro. See Dave's post on my thread "Oh, Noooooo!" for an immune system booster he uses.:tu

It all breaks down to what symptoms you are having. I am sick right now also, I have been experiencing Chest congestion, Head Congestion, aches and pain, fever, extreme cough, and runny nose. I went with a couple products to cover all the symptoms and increased my water intake by a substantial amount. Comtrex cold and cough is awesome with (Pseudophedrine for head congestion with chlorphenaramine to dry it all up. Dextromethorphan or DM to kill the cough with tylenol for aches and fever) I took Cheratussin AC which in some states you can buy OTC it is the same ingredient in mucinex with codeine in it. if you cant get it then I would highly recommend Mucinex and TONS of water. If the aches and fever get a little worse I take 1 additional Ibuprofen to curb the issues. The little things from paying attention to working in a pharmacy :)

I swear by Alka Seltzer Cold Formula or the remedies such as Thera Flu that is dissolved in hot water. Orange juice or chicken broth also helps. To get to the point where you don't notice the symptoms, advise vodka in the OJ and a fifth of JW Black. Hope that you feel better.:tu

No matter how old or young you are
No matter what you take or don't take
No matter where you live (Florida or New Jersey, OR even Mass)
No matter if you wnt outside without your scarf on

There's nothin you can really do about colds IMHO. Everybody gets em and they all seem to last 3 to 10 days no matter what we take or don't take. I believe it's part of the body's "recycling, rejuvinating" program. Kinda like auto oil change if you will.

I'm sorry you feel like chit Al, but I'm sure it'll be over in the next week or so as most colds are.

Late to the party, here, but I hope you're doing better, Al. ;s

I rarely catch colds, but when I do, Alka Seltzer Cold during the day and Nyquil at night generally takes care of symptoms. And plenty of fluids.
