2 of our newer members are going to review these 10 cigars:

http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww254/dichotomyx/All.jpg

If anyone has any ideas of what these might be, please don't share... I want this to be as fun and unbiased as possible.

They will review them at least 1 per week and PM their reviews to me. Once I get em, I'll post them in the thread and post the results.

This is gonna rock!

Cigars are going out tomorrow... :banger

**************************************

Cigar: Mystery Cigar 1
Setting: Back deck on a 70 deg night. Brilliant out.
Drink: Left Handed Brewery Milk Stout

Initial Impressions: Cigar is smaller than my typical cigar and is very veiny. There is some apparent damage on the cigar and obvious weak spots which make me wonder how this one passed QC.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/006-11.jpg

Cut and pre-light draw: Very tight, hard to get any airflow at all with my initial V-cut. Faint taste of English breakfast tea with an even fainter honey sweetness finish.

Lit easily using my tri-torch.

Draw after lighting: Nearly impossible. V-cut failed, re-cut using guillotine in an attempt to get a better draw. This too failed, but what to do. I smoked the stubborn thing.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/008-11.jpg
^You can see how tightly packed this particular cigar is.

First Third: Held its ash through the first third. Tastes of leather, campfire and finishes very very slightly sweet. I got more smoke from the ash end than through my mouth, this cigar was all workworkwork.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/011-12.jpg
^First third. Note the funky ash angle despite the presence of any wind, nor did I set it down which could've bumped it. Weird.

Second Third: Ash fell off at the very end of the First Third. I had to constantly work to keep this cigar lit. The flavor was a bitter throughout. The taste turned to more of a strong leather smell without the aforementioned sweet component. Smoke smells bitter like a campfire after it's been rained on: heavy and acidic. Draw remains next to impossible. The harshness mellowed toward the end of the Second Third. Ash fell off again, and seems the ash wouldn't last for more than 1". Cigar began coming apart at the aforementioned veins and weak spots.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/017-6.jpg
^Second Third. Damage is more evident here.

Dog/helper took a sniff of the cigar, sneezed and promptly left. This should be a sign.

Third Third: Bfargh. The cigar constantly keeps trying to die on me, supposedly from the too tight wrap. The wrapper on this particular day was given 50 yards of leaf to wrap before he could go home and he attempted to put all 50y into this particular cigar. I hate this roller. I imagine his name is Senor Manuel. I hate Manuel.
The cigar now has a heavy tar buildup with an acidic finish and has absolutely no hint of pleasantness. In my notes I have written, "I hate this poor excuse for a cigar."
Cigar has to be re-lit twice in this portion, despite constantly attempting to draw from it.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/019-6.jpg
^Burn was constantly uneven. Note the weak spot + damage.

Final Impressions: This smallish cigar took a solid 80+ minutes to smoke due to its tightly wrapped nature.
Would I buy again: Certainly not.
Would I smoke again: I would not gift this cigar to an enemy nor would I smoke another one even if free.
Overall Rating With 10 the highest possible and 0 the baseline: 1.5/10

Final Thoughts: Avoid this cigar like the plague.

Prelight

This feels like a tightly wrapped stick. Very firm, carmel colored cigar with a nice wrapper that has medium veins.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk1.jpg

After clipping, the prelight draw was very tight and I was worried that I'd be putting my lungs to the test trying to smoke this thing.

Light

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk1a.jpg

All is well, the draw is not as tight as it seemed it would be. I'd have to say medium draw with ample amounts of smoke. Just a hint of spice and pepper in the first few puffs.

1/3rd

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk1b.jpg

The burn is a little bit uneven with loose, dark gray ash. It wanted to go out if not tended to every minute. A couple touch ups were required but nothing major. The cigar has a smooth flavor. The hints of spice and pepper are gone.

2/3rd

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk1c.jpg

Flavor is getting better and better, more smooth.....smoke is easy to come by with every puff. Definatley a medium bodied stick. Still working to keep it lit. The loose, flakey ash is still holding on and the uneven burn continues. The ash makes something that reminded me of a Dr. Seuss hat.....

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk1d.jpg

DBall
09-19-2009, 10:23 AM
.....and the gray, flakey ash continues.....

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk1e.jpg

3/3rd

The flavor of this cigar continues to be smooth, becoming creamy and buttery. The word "yummy" came to mind over and over. The cigar is now staying lit without me having to puff at it every minute. However, the uneven burn continues.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk1f.jpg

This cigar was enjoyable despite a few touch ups and initially fighting to keep it lit. It became smoother and the tastes blended together nicely as time went on. I nubbed this thing 'til the very end.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk1g.jpg

Overall I'd have to give this stick a 9.3/10 Would recommend it again.

Thanks for reading.

Is it just me, or did the first examples of cigars actually look significantly different from each other? VRs are quality made, and Brad's first cigar not only tasted horrible, but the pictures themselves showed a cigar of lesser quality.

Is it possible there was a mix-up on the first?

Cheers

I don't think so. If you look at the pictures closely, the burn looks almost the same, the wrapper the same and length. IMO, I got a cigar that should've been pitched during quality control. My cigar even had a very large off colored blemish you can see in my pictures.
That coupled with it's draw, taste and poor construction (kept falling apart) I don't think it was a good representation of what the company puts out.

I'd like to try one more of them one day just to see what's what.

Nope... same cigar. Both seemed to have difficult draws. When I made these packages, I had the bags pre-numbered, took the pics, removed the bands and placed them in the bag one at a time so there would be no errors. Sounds possible that Brad just got a bad one... draw problems ruin everything about a cigar because it just pisses ya off. Sad that it was that cigar, though, because I LOVE VRs...

Slavac Cigar #2

**************************************

Cigar: Mystery Cigar 2
Setting: Back Deck again, 75deg night, just after a light rain.
Drink: Monty Python's Holy Grail Ale

Initial Impressions: Cigar is another small one, yet the construction seems flawless. It has what I assume is a triple cap, no flaws visible, light/medium veins and appears a bit oily. This will be fun.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/001-12.jpg

Cut and pre-light draw: Nice tight wrap. Easy draw though not what I would consider loose. Draw reminds me of a Cx2 or Man of War. Tastes slightly earthy with a hint of pine and leather.

Lit easily using my tri-torch.

Draw after lighting: Medium draw and for lack of a better word, 'ideal.'

First Third: From notes: "Oh yes, this is bliss."
Clouds of smoke with a smoothe, even draw.
No hint of bitterness anywhere on the palate.
From this impression, I would consider this a medium bodied cigar.
Tight white ash with an even burn.
Flavors are a hint of leather, mostly tobacco with no sweetness.
Toward the end of the First Third, the burn became slightly uneven though it appears to be self-correcting.
Absolutely lovely.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/003-14.jpg
^Slightly off burn lines, nice tight, white ash.

Second Third: Burn continues to be slightly uneven. Ash is white and seems to be a bit looser, but not shaggy.
Burn stopped being self correcting at this point.
Lost its ash at the 3/8ths mark.
Flavors are a bit stronger now. Tasting more peat, earth, tobacco. Reminds me of a Cohiba black in flavor. This cigar seems more full bodied now than medium.
Slight tar taste on the end of 2/3, but it is very slight.
Amazing thus far. Truly enjoyable smoke.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/004-13.jpg
^As BigAsh would say, "Don't knock the ash."

Third Third: From notes: "I love this cigar. I will name her Consuela. If I didn't have Amy, I would run away with Consuela.
Taste remains the same from the Second Third. Tar taste has gone and all that remains is earth, tobacco and love.
Bit of a funky ash angle for some reason.
This cigar still emits clouds upon clouds of white smoke despite it's smallish nature.
Lost the ash again with about 1.5" of ash buildup.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/006-12.jpg
^Funky ash. Bit of shagging, but very minor. Despite uneven burn, never had a runner.

Final Impressions: This smallish cigar took about 40 minutes to smoke, which is ideal for a late night smoke before bed.
Would I buy again: In a heartbeat.
Would I smoke again: Not only would I smoke this one again, I would recommend this to my friends/family.
Overall Rating With 10 the highest possible and 0 the baseline: 9.0/10

Final Thoughts: This is one of the few cigars I've nubbed until my lips couldn't stand the heat. This was truly an amazing cigar.

Flat4boxer Cigar #2

******************************************

Mystery cigar #2 is a short, maybe 4" stick. This is a very well constucted cigar with a medium dark wrapper.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk2a.jpg

Prelight

After clipping the end off, prelight draw worries me as it tastes like a Swisher Sweet and it has a firm draw.

Light

Pleasently supprised that it is not a Swisher. The draw is firm and full bodied smoke fills my mouth with a hint of spice.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk2d.jpg

First Third

There is a bit of uneven burn goin on with that bit of spicyness hanging on. Hints of leather are coming out. A medium gray ash is holding will. The spice hints are mellowing out about 1 inch into this cigar.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk2f.jpg

Second Third

Volumes of smoke are coming easy. At this point it seems to turn to a medium-full bodied smoke. Leathery notes continue with hints of some type of berry add to the complexity of this cigar. The uneven burn continues but no touch ups are needed.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk2g.jpg

Third Third

The medium-full bodied smoke becomes more steady. The hints of berry and leather mellow out. One slight touch up was needed after the long ash dropped. This is a great morning smoke with a cup of coffee.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk2i.jpg

Overall I'd give this stick a 8.9 out of 10. I would recommend this cigar and would probably buy a fiver just to have on hand.

Thanks for reading.

That's the thing with NC's... few draw problems. These are very small smokes that I'll have to revisit at some point. It's been a long, long while since I smoked an NC (not because I'm a snob, I just know what I like and my collection is of mostly habanos :D). Apparently, tho these two, they are pretty damned good. I'll have to smoke one while reading their reviews to see if I can pick up on any of the same things. It's nice to see a consistent rating between both Brad and Kelly, though.

Slavac Cigar #3
*************

Cigar: Mystery Cigar 3
Setting: Back deck on a 70 deg night with AdamC.
Drink: Left Handed Brewery Milk Stout

Initial Impressions: This is one of the longer of the 10 cigars I was sent, however it is VERY veiny cigar, probably one of the most vein riddled I've ever seen.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/003-16.jpg

Cut and pre-light draw: Hard draw but not as bad as #1.
The first 2 inches of the cigar appear supple to the touch, the rest of the cigar has periodic knots throughout, usually under the knots.

Lit easily using my tri-torch.

Draw after lighting: Difficult, but not hard. Guillotine cut. Flavors of wood and tobacco with a vaguely sweet finish that I can't pigeonhole into a particular flavor.

First Third: Tastes a bit off. Unpleasant but not horrid. Draw is tight with very little smoke. Ash is strange, very strange. Looks a bit like a series of hourglasses stuck atop each other at different angles. Developed a burn spot 1" down from the cherry which burned through. At this point I don't hate this stick, but I don't like it.
Lost ash at 1". Burn is uneven.
Flavors of wood, tar and oddly enough, faintly of freshly baked bread.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/007-14.jpg
^Burn spot during First Third.

Second Third: Draw easing, smoke increasing. Flavor is more harsh, with maybe a hint of pepper? Some tar flavor building. Lost its ash again with 1" of buildup. Burn remains uneven.
Flavors remain the same though I lost the fresh baked bread component.
Toward the end of 2/3 I noticed some more harshness at the back of the palate. Cigar has begun falling apart: trying to lose the main leaf wrapper.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/008-15.jpg
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/011-14.jpg
^Funky ash and falling apart.

Third Third: Ash lasts only half an inch at a time. More palate burn returning.
Flavors remain the same and unremarkable. Wrapper continues to disintegrate.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/012-14.jpg
^Damage evident here. 3/3.

Final Impressions: This cigar lasted about 50 minutes and wasn't enjoyable for more than 2 of those.
Would I buy again: Certainly not.
Would I smoke again: I'd give this one another try to see if I got a dud, but odds are I'd pass.
Overall Rating With 10 the highest possible and 0 the baseline: 3.5/10

Final Thoughts: Look elsewhere.

Flat4boxer Cigar #3
****************

Okay folks sorry for the delay. My head cold is finally cleared up and I was able to enjoy some cigar time for the first time in a week this morning.

Unknown cigar #3 is a light brown, firmly wrapped stick that is roughly 6 1/2 - 7" long. Small veins cover this non-oily wrapper. Overall appearance is A+.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk3a.jpg

Pre-light

After cutting off the end, the draw seems as if it's going to be a struggle to smoke. Not unlike Brads first cigar.

Light

Draw is very tight and a low volume of smoke. I want to say it tastes of cedar but my newb palet knows no better so that's what I'm sticking with. The smoke is not overpowering, almost mild is the best discription.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk3e.jpg

First 3rd:

Draw continues to be tight. I get the home made draw tool out and start poking away hoping to free up more smoke. Little is accomplished so I just continue puffing away. It forms a tight gray ash that struggles to hang on. (slight breeze out today) A mouth full of smoke is hard to come by. Shame, because what I do get is very tasty. Burn is very even, no touch ups required.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk3f.jpg

Second 3rd:

The tight draw continues until finally it was as if I'd burned through the "plug". Smoke comes more freely and I really get the full taste of this stick. The dedar notes mentioned above continue and slightly mix with a woodsy flavor. A touch of leather is introduced here and there. The cigar is very enjoyable at this point.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk3g.jpg

Third 3rd:

The very smooth cedar flavor continues and the woodsy complexity seem to blend nicely as we near the finnish. This is yet another stick that I nub to the end.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk3h.jpg

Overall I have to give this cigar a 8.7/10

It would have scored a bit higher had I not run into the initial draw problem.

I would recommend this stick and will look to pick up a few to throw in the humi for later enjoyment.

Clearly... there's something going on here with these cigars. I asked Brad how he was storing them because, while it's no secret habanos have draw issues, not EVERY one should.

Turns out his humidor is around 70% (which it far too high for habanos... NCs seem to be able to tolerate high RH a bit better).

From now on, he's gonna drybox them a bit before smoking them. That should make it a little better. A bad draw can really ruin the smoking experience...

Slavac Cigar #4
*************

Cigar: Mystery Cigar 4
Setting: Back Deck again, 55deg night. Bit chilly.
Drink: Nothing tonight.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/007-16.jpg

Initial Impressions: Dryboxed this one on Dball's recommendation for 36 hours. The cigar has light to medium veins, no damage but did have a touch of greenish/blue discoloration around the foot. I'm guessing there was a footband here. Cigar appears well constructed.

Cut and pre-light draw: Cut easily using a guillotine cut. Draw was light to medium with an initial taste of hazelnut coffee.

Lit easily using my tri-torch.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/008-17.jpg

Draw after lighting: Heavenly. Medium draw.

First Third: Tastes of nuts...perhaps macadamian?
Smoothe draw with lots of smoke.
Flavor is fantastic and almost chewy/tangible.
Flavor reminds me of the one Cohiba Siglo II I've had, but superior.
Draw remained smoothe throughout 1/3, with a ragged burn with no runners. There was no flavor of tar or smoke on the palate and no burn.
Ash fell away at the end of 1/3 and turned instantly to powder. Never seen that before.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/012-16.jpg
^Ash fell off right after picture.

Second Third: Burn remains uneven though it's a non issue as there are no runners.
Flavor remains the same with a hint of leather creeping in.
This is an enjoyable/pleasant smoke with no burn or unpleasant taste to the palate.
Hint of a 'creamy' finish but nothing to knock my socks off.
Toward the end of 2/3 I noticed more leather but it was far from overpowering.
Lost ash at another 1" buildup.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/013-13.jpg

Third Third: Flavor remains constant. Very predictable.
Some slight pepper developing at the back of the palate, but only a hint.
Burn line continues to be uneven but there are no runners.
Dark, powdery ash.
Cigar emits clouds of blue/gray smoke which is surprising for such a smallish cigar.
Nutty flavor returns with force the closer I get to the nub.
Lost ash again with 1" of buildup.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/017-8.jpg

Final Impressions: Pleasant smoke, nothing fancy but very enjoyable. Easy on the palate and 'medium bodied' throughout.
Would I buy again: Certainly with a price point of under $8.
Would I smoke again: Absolutely
Overall Rating With 10 the highest possible and 0 the baseline: 8.25

Final Thoughts: Smoke became too hot with 1" of cigar left which left me a bit sad to put it down. Pretty good smoke, but a bit too bland for my maduro loving palate. Don't hesitate to pick up one of these however, it was far better than many I've had.

Unknown cigar number 4 is a smaller, firmly wrapped 4 1/2"- 5" stick. Small veins cover this carmel brown wrapper.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk4a.jpg

Pre-light

After the cut, the pre-light draw is VERY tight. I get hints of nothing as I get no air through it. "This is going to be fun" comes to mind as I hit it with the torch to fire it up.

Light

The stick starts to burn uneven almost from the start. It is very hard to draw and when I do, almost no smoke gets to my mouth.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk4b.jpg

First 3rd

I find myself reaching for the trusty draw tool. After several attempts to open the airway, I give up. This thing is a complete plug. The only way I can get a taste of smoke is to REALLY puff on this bad boy. Even then it's minimal smoke and taste for maximum effort. I keep puffing and puffing hoping that as some point it will burn past the plugged area and I'll get to see what this stick is all about. This never happens.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk4c.jpg

Second 3rd

I don't give up totally thinking things will turn around at some point but it is just not happening. The uneven burn continues.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk4d.jpg

Finally I just have to give up. My cheeks are numb and tingling from trying to get this thing to come to life. In the end it's like trying to smoke a 2X4. Just ain't happening.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk4e.jpg

I know know the dissapointment that Brad felt on the first cigar we tested. I did get a hint now and then of a flavorful smoke but never enough to judge or expound on in any manner.

Overall I have to give this cigar a 7.5/10

It was well constructed (too well perhaps) and the little flavor I did taste left me wanting more but I just never got it.

I'll hold off on recommending this stick. I'm sure that if I could have drawn some more smoke it would have faired very well. I will chalk this one up to being a "bad one in the bunch."

First off, Brad, thank you for dry boxing that. It'll make this a lot better for ya. 24-48 hours should be fine... as long as it's around the low 60's. Funny you said that it's superior to the Cohiba Sig 2 (don't worry, I'd probably say the same thing... I am not a cohiba fan in the slightest).

Also, Brad, you'll be happy to know that full boxes of these are around $35. :D

Kelly, I'm sorry yours was plugged. These cigars do have a tendency to be unpredictable construction-wise, but the flavors are good and the price is right for a taste of Cuba on the golf course or when you're just not really paying attention. It's quite likely you got a bad one, and I'm surprised you rated it so highly. They really are pretty tasty if they draw well.

Slavac Cigar #5
*************

Cigar: Mystery Cigar 5
Setting: Back deck on a 50 deg evening. Not quite snotsicles, but nearly.
Drink: No drink this go around.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/007-17.jpg
^Deadpool, XD and a good stick.

Initial Impressions: The cigar is roughly the size of one of the 'smaller' sticks I usually enjoy. The construction is flawless with very very few veins showing through, smoothe wrapper.

Cut and pre-light draw: V cut this one on a whim. Dry boxed for 36hr prior to smoking on DBall's recommendation. Draw is medium to hard with the very distinct flavor of fresh cut hay.

Lit easily using my tri-torch.

Draw after lighting: Moved from hard to 'medium' where I consider the draw to be ideal.

First Third: Lots of smoke and a mild flavor.
Light draw.
Favor reminds me of BTT 1, but only faintly. I was having a hard time picking a particular flavor out.
Burn began very funky but eventually evened out to a razor burn. This alternated from draw to draw.
Construction and wrapper remind me of a 5 Vegas Gold, though none of the flavors are similar. This cigar is lovely, a 5 Vegas Gold is best saved for another, less prestigious review.
Ash reminds me of a CC.
Flavors mellowed out through 1/3 with more straw flavor coming through. Hint of pepper are evident at the back of the palate.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/016-11.jpg
^First Third.

Second Third: Lost ash with 1.5" of buildup. Ash was very weighty suggesting a tightly constructed cigar.
Pepper flavor returned with a vengence. I taste straw, wood and pepper.
Burn became ragged which continued throughout.
Flavor profile has now moved from 'medium' to strong.
There is no tar taste however, but the straw flavor comes through with a hint of tobacco. So far, lovely smoke.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/018-10.jpg
^2/3

Third Third: Pepper flavor has spread to my lips. I enjoy this cigar and am reminded of both the MOW line and the OpusX line.
Ash continued to fall off every inch.
At the end of the cigar, the pepper flavor mellowed to result in a fantastic cigar.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/020-8.jpg
Nubbin!

Final Impressions: I enjoyed this smoke immensely. There was no tar flavor present throughout, though this may have been helped with frequent purging.
Moderate nicotine buzz.
Construction remained flawless.
Would I buy again: Depending on the price point yes, it was pretty darn good.
Would I smoke again: Certainly.
Overall Rating With 10 the highest possible and 0 the baseline: 8.9/10

Review of cigar #5

Pre Light

This is another carmel colored stick about 5" long. It's wrapped well from top to bottom and feels firm but not too tight.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk5a.jpg

Light

The draw is better then expected but a good puff is needed to get a mouthful of smoke. It has mild to med body and med - full flavor. Leather notes are noticed right away. Another thing that is noticed is the amount of times I had to touch it up----4 times in the first inch!

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk5b.jpg

1/3rd

The uneven burn continues and it seems hard to keep lit. The flavors are very good, leather notes becoming more pronounced. It has a dark gray ash that holds well. My only concern is that it is cumbersom to smoke with all the touch ups needed.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk5c.jpg

2/3rd

Burn issues continue, if it didn't taste so good I'd have tossed this stick an inch or so ago. Mild mellow flavors settle down to a creamy leather and woodsy taste. Very good! "Blast the uneven burn!!!!"

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk5d.jpg

3/3rd

By now the touch ups have lessened somewhat. I'm able to enjoy the last bit of this cigar for all it's worth. This ends up being yet another nubable stick.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk5e.jpg

Overall I'd give this stick an 8.8/10

I would have rated it higher had there not been the burn issues. Despite the aforementioned issues I'd buy this one again and would recommend it with the cautionary warning of said uneven burn.

Thanks for reading.

Thats pretty cool! I'm certainly not gonna break into your house lol

All CCs have a triple cap which can give them away, and often have a dark, almost black ash.

The problem with using just that to determine is that some NCs have the triple cap (Tats and I think Opus too) and can also have a dark ash occationally... :2

Then just smoke the cigar (and enjoy it) and don't worry about the pics... just do the review. Kelly did a pretty good job on them anyway.

Also, that cigar should really cheer you up! :D

I'm waiting on a 10P call from my computer guy. If that goes as I was hoping, I should be up and running tomorrow :)

Slavic Cigar #6
************

Cigar: Mystery Cigar 6
Setting: Back deck on a 60 deg night. Soon turned to a 45deg night with rain.
Drink: Nada

Initial Impressions: Cigar is constructed very well. So dark it looks almost dyed. Medium veins, tight wrap.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/254.jpg
^Evil bunny.

Cut and pre-light draw: Cut easily with my Xixar multi-tool. Draw is medium/easy with a flavor that reminds me of chewing tobacco. Noted a triple cap after cut.

Lit easily using my tri-torch.

Draw after lighting: Remains smoothe at medium/easy. Fantastic.

First Third: Clouds of smoke come from this cigar.
Peppery start, and seems to be a very strong cigar flavor wise.
Burn was uneven for 1/3.
I managed to purge this one a bit hard and ended up shooting hot ash right down my jacket :/
Pepper mellowed a bit but was still heavy at the back of my throat/tip of my tongue.
This reminds me strongly of a MOW.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/256.jpg
^Dusty ash.

Second Third: Frequent purging kept this cigar tasting clean.
Pepper was still strong but no tar notes.
Cigar continued to emit tonnes and tonnes of smoke.
Ash was brown and looks dusty, this is a first for me.
Construction remained flawless.
Pepper flavor mellowed slightly. The actual flavor was hard for me to place, but suffice it to say, "pleasant."
At the end of 2/3 it dropped 10deg and started raining. Moved to covered front porch like a cat on fire.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/260.jpg
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/262.jpg
^Good ash even after relocating to front porch.

Third Third: Very very strong nic. buzz off of this one. I mean slap you in the face buzz.
Flavor mellowed out significantly.
Ash would last for about 1.5" and would always fall off during purging. I'd since learned to dodge properly.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/264.jpg

Final Impressions: This was a good cigar, though I didn't think it was anything fancy. Construction held throughout. The pepper was a bit overwhelming, but not so much that I wouldn't want to try another.
Would I buy again: If the price point was right, yes.
Would I smoke again: Absolutely.
Overall Rating With 10 the highest possible and 0 the baseline: 8.8

Final Thoughts: I'm interested to see what this cigar was. It reminded me of a MOW in looks and flavor, smoked like an Opus but didn't pick up the pepper flavor at the end like either cigar did.

Flat4boxer Cigar #6
****************

Prelight

Cigar number 6 is a dark brown maduro wrapped stick. Firm to the touch and well constructed with a somewhat oily sheen. Pre-light draw is firm.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk6a5.jpg

Light

Perfect draw (for me) with plenty of full flavor, full bodied goodness.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk6b.jpg

First 3rd

Great flavor!!! Not as bold as a Camacho Tripple Maduro. Nice even burn starting out. Smooth flavors are not overpowering. Slight linger on the finish with just a hint of spice and it forms a nice tight, white ash.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk6c.jpg

Second 3rd

Flavor holding steady with hints of what I'd say is cedar. Even burn continues. As a side note, I set a personal record on my hand held comunications device in Bubble Breaker at this point.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk6d.jpg

Third 3rd

More full flavor coming out....seems to be getting stronger. Perhaps it's just the length of time I've been smoking it. *shrug* Can't seem to stop puffing....I'm going to nub this thing!!!

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk6e.jpg

Overall I'd give this powerhouse a 9.1/10

Would recommend this to everyone and would buy again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for reading.

Slavac Cigar #7
*************

Cigar: Mystery Cigar 7
Setting: Back deck on a 45 deg night.
Drink: Fullers ESB

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/002-28.jpg

Initial Impressions: The cigar is well constructed and the wrapper feels smooth. There are very few visible veins, though cigar feels a bit spongy to the touch.

Cut and pre-light draw: Cut easily using my Xixar multi-tool. Draw was light/medium and smoothe. It was very windy out, so the pictures are likely not indicative of the true burn line of the cigar.

Draw after lighting: Remained smooth, not too loose with no plugs developing.

First Third: After just a few puffs I could only conclude that this cigar is a CC. It has the normal CC taste I've come to learn. There is just a touch of pepper on the tongue.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/010-18.jpg
1/3

Second Third: Flavor remained the same. not anything to write home about, but still lovely.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/011-19.jpg
2/3 with the new outdoor heater Amy got us.

Third Third: No flavor change with this cigar at all. Developed a bit of tar flavor toward the end of 2/3 which remained throughout.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/012-19.jpg

Final Impressions: While this cigar was good, it never knocked my socks off.
Would I buy again: Perhaps, depending on price point.
Would I smoke again: Possibly.
Overall Rating With 10 the highest possible and 0 the baseline: 8.0

Final Thoughts: I'm interested in seeing what this one is.

****************

Cigar #7 is a light brown cigar with almost white veins running through it. Good construction but does not feel as tightly wrapped as the other stick we've tried up to this point.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk7a.jpg

Pre-light

The draw is medium upon clipping the end.

Light

Plenty of smoke. The draw is perfect allowing good amounts of flavorful smoke to enter my mouth. It has a medium body and good flavor.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk7b.jpg

1/3rd

Flakey gray ash forms, burn is even despite it being breezy out today. While smoking I keep thinking "I must have more" and have to force myself to slow down. The flavor is awsome. No touch ups are needed.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk7c.jpg

2/3rd

DO WANT!!! Flavor bomb!! Not sure how to describe it. Mellow, leathery, smooth and creamy. If it were a woman, I would ask it for a date. If it were a food product it would be bacon. Bacon wrapped in bacon and served with bacon. If it were a Monty Python song it would be "Spam" Yummy!!

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk7d.jpg

3/3rd

"Lord, hear my prayer" "Blessed be DBall for the greatness he has bestowed upon me this day" "Bless him that his music reaches the top of the Billboard Charts and that he has throngs of rabid female fans beating down his door"

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk7e.jpg

Yes, I nubbed it. I nubbed it like no other before it. Best cigar I've had since taking up cigars. Better than my previous favorite, RYJ No. 3 but very similar IMO.

Please let this be a NC so I have free access to it.

Overall I give this stick a 9.6/10 It lost 4/10ths because it went out and burned my lips in the process.

I would def. recommend this stick and I will buy a box upon discovery of what it is.

*************

Cigar: Mystery Cigar 8
Setting: Back deck on a 60 deg afternoon. Amazing weather for a cigar.
Drink: Nada

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/004-25.jpg

Initial Impressions: Cigar looks very well wrapped and constructed with a slight 'pigtail' on the end.

Cut and pre-light draw:
Cut easily using my xixar multi-tool. Draw is medium and what I would consider 'ideal'. No plugging evident.

Lit easily using my tri-torch.

Draw after lighting: Remained ideal.

First Third: Draw was smoothe, and flavor was heavenly. There was notes of pine, the occasional sweet hint and love. The flavor profile didn't change throughout the cigar which makes for a boring review, but a lovely damn smoke.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/012-20.jpg
^Playing with different angles.

Second Third: Developed some very weird cigar issues. The burn started freaking out and retreating rapidly to reveal an almost perfect hole in my cigar. Any idea what the hell this is anyone?

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/016-13.jpg
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/017-12.jpg

Third Third: Smoke volume diminished to almost nil after the hole appeared. That said, the flavor remained amazing and the volume of smoke picked up toward the end of 3/3 with a bit of tar buildup despite purging.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/allusakid/023-8.jpg

Final Impressions: Even with the funky burn, this was one of the best cigars I've had in a long wile.
Would I buy again: Absolutely.
Would I smoke again: In a heartbeat.
Overall Rating With 10 the highest possible and 0 the baseline: 9.25

Flat4boxer Cigar #8
****************

Review Cigar #8 is a chocolate colored stick that is well constructed. It is firm stick with nice veins running throughout.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk8a.jpg

Pre-Light draw is very tight.

Light

Firm draw allows plenty of smoke. It has a nice flavor to it with very little spice noticiable.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk8aa.jpg

1/3rd

Burn is even with dark gray ash forming. Full flavor and full body smoke pleases the palet. Nice mellow stick for me, very enjoyable.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk8b.jpg

2/3rd

Firm draw continues but it is still very good. Burn continues to be very even, no touch ups needed. Ash is holding tight. (right then it fell in my lap)

Hints of leather come through but very mild.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk8c.jpg

3/3rd

The firm draw is making my cheeks hurt and tingle a bit. The cigar is good enough for me to put up with but it is a drawback to smoking this cigar. Too much like work instead of enjoyment at this point. The flavor has not changed too much throughout it's length.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk8d.jpg

Overall I'd give this cigar a 9 out of 10 It lost points due to the draw issues.

Recommend = Yes
Buy = Yes (unless this is another cruel CC temptation put upon me by Daniel)

Overall Impressions:
My phone chucked my notes, so there's no by the third review.
The burn remained constant throughout, though the first ash was very funky (think graboids).
The flavor remained smoothe and lovely from start to finish. Frequent purging kept any tar flavor away which made this hour long smoke a joy.
Construction held solid throughout as well.
All in all this was a premium cigar in my books.

Final Impressions: Brilliant cigar. Consistant throughout and downright lovely.
Would I buy again: Depending on price point, absolutely.
Would I smoke again: Yup!

Flat4boxer Cigar #9
****************

Cigar #9 is a well constructed, firm, chocolate brown stick.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk9a.jpg

Pre-light draw is free flowing

Light

Good volume of spicey smoke fills my mouth as I puff it up for the first time. I can tell right away this is going to be different.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk9b.jpg

1/3rd

The full flavor and full bodiedness of this smoke is very strong to me. The light draw almost overwhelms my tastebuds with spice. The full flavor continues as a light colored ash forms two inches long. This seems to be a fast burning cigar.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk9c.jpg

2/3rd

Spice seems to mellow at this point. That, or my taste buds have been reduced to useless fragments of their former condition. More flavors are coming through but they are very complex. The even burn continues at a quick rate. No touch ups have been needed.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk9d.jpg

3/3rd

This realy is a powerhouse of a cigar. Very complex smoke makes it enjoyable, even though overwhelming spice is something I like to avoid in a cigar. I have to give it high marks even though is it something I probably would not spend money on because of my preference in a cigar.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk9e.jpg

Overall I give this cigar a 8.9/10
Buy = No for reasons stated above
Recommend = YES, this stick will be a winner in many aficionados' book.

What they smoked:

La Aurora 1495

Slavac score: 9.4
Flat4boxer score: 8.9

I used to love these things when I first started smoking cigars. Actually, these are what initially got me into cigars. The flavors were great... ahh... those were the days. I tried one recently and just couldn't really get into it.... so strange how much the palate changes over time.

Oh well, only one cigar left and then I may need to start up round 2. May not do as many cigars next time, though... I'm not sure.

I kind of expected it to get difficult around the holidays, so it's not too big a deal, hence the smiley at the end.

OK... I'm not sure what to do at this point. It's been a full month without a review. PMs have been sent, but we're still pretty stalled.

I've sent multiple PMs to Brad and haven't heard anything back... further, he hasn't logged in since the 20th. However, I sent PMs on 12/10 and 12/17...

I think I'm giving up at this point.

Later today I'll post Kelly's review and reveal the final cigar. Not too sure if I'll do another round, though. If I do, it'll probably be less cigars... 10 may be too big of a commitment.

I'm not upset about this... more than anything, I just hope Brad's ok... has anyone heard from him?

Not positive but I think he's still up here in New England visiting family and friends. He said he was going to be bouncing around from house to house in the area. Not sure when school starts back up for him, but he should be back on line soon.

This was very fun to read. It was interesting the differences both guys reported on the exact same cigar. Thanks for doing this!

Flat4boxer cigar #10
*****************

Review of cigar number 10

This is a light brown stick that is well constructed, not too firm not to soft.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk10a.jpg

Pre-light draw is firm and does not offer much in the way of pre-light flavor.

Light

The light goes well and a fair amount of smoke is had. It has a bit of spice on the draw but not so much that it would scare anyone.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk10b.jpg

1/3

Yummy is a word that comes to mind. This smoke offers a hint of citrus and the spice that was present has subsided to a smooth full taste.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk10c.jpg

2/3

Pleasant full flavor continues to come through with every puff. The stick is burning straight and requires no touch ups. The dark gray ash forms and holds firm until I'm ready to ash it.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk10d.jpg

3/3

This is another really good cigar that I'm quite enjoying. Despit the 46 degree temps, I'm forcing myself not to rush through the experience. My cup of hot chocolat is really keeping me warm and going well with this cigar.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/snowkelrs2/Unk10e.jpg

I would def. recommend this cigar and would purchase in the future with no hesitation.

Overall, I'd rate this stick at 9.2

I'd like to thank Dan once again for allowing me this opportunity to expand my horizons. These reviews have served me well and added to the enjoyment of my smoking pleasure.

Enjoy the hat and Palio Dan

What they smoked:

2008 Bolivar Gold Medal

Slavac score: Bailed out - did not review :td
Flat4boxer score: 9.2

Thank you Kelly for following through and finishing this up! That hint of citrus really seems to be a part of the bolivar profile. These BGMs are probably my favorite regular production Boli to date, and I REALLY need to get some more... you can never have enough!
Not sure what the hell happened to Brad, but it really bums me out. This was supposed to be a fun event and it ended on a really sour note.

Final synopsys coming when I have a chance to gather all the data and figure out how best to present it. ;)

PS - That Palio is friggin great... now that I have it, I've been using it constantly. Thanks!
