View Full Version : Heartfelt Beads Have Arrived, Few Questions

The directions stated to apply one fluid ounce of distilled water per 1 pound of beads. I think I screwed up and added more like 3-4. Did I screw up?

My thinking is I'm not overly concerned as my humidors are fairly new and despite seasoning, I reckon the wood will absorb more moisture. Correct?

Lastly, David at Heartfelt is a hell of a guy. Fast ship and great communication throughout the order despite my n00b status :tu.

Just go to his Set-up (http://www.heartfeltindustries.com/Bead_Set_Up.asp)page and your questions should be answered my friend.

Like larry said but I think a hair dryer will air/dry them out. You want some to be white and some to clear. like 30/70 mix.
Clear=Water (let out H20)
White=dry as a bone (absorb extra H2O)

Just like Ken said! :tu

"The optimal is to have about 60% to 70% of the beads clear. Don't try to get them all clear because if you do they cannot absorb any sudden rise in humidity in your humidor."

Another tip you might not have heard, I don't pour water in mine. I use a small mist bottle and it works great.

Will be doing the mist technique next time. Thanks :)

Just to update the thread, I ordered 70% beads and surprise surprise, both humidors are at EXACTLY 70% according to my two independent hydrometers. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Humidity beads are the best in my opinion. Other humidity devices only release humidity uncontrolled. Beads lower and raise humidity to your desired preference.

Ahh, I had bought a humi once and they threw in 1/2 lb of heartfelt beads in a sealed plastic bag. I decided to transfer about half into a nylon bag. I know what you mean!! :eek:

Find out the dimensions of your humidor.
Find out the interior volume.
Buy beads to suit.

No worries. You said it's 300ct. I'm going to venture a guess that 1 pound of 70% Heartfelt beads and at least one fan of some sort will get you set up proper.

I don't have that humidor but 5-10 pounds should do it.

Based on the info from Cigarmony.
Dimensions (Outside): 18 3/4" W x 11 5/8" D x 10 1/4" H = ~2234 cubic inches

5 ounces of beads is sufficient for 2700 cubic inches.

I gotta go take a nap now.

When i recharge my beads, should I use my mist bottle through the mesh bag, or take them out, spray, and put back in?

eber

while I dont have mine in mesh bags, I use pantyhose and I just take them out of the humi and put them in a bowl and mist them then roll them around to make sure all the water is absorbed

EDIT: just to clarify I do not take the beads out of the pantyhose.

I pour mine out of their tubes and bags into a click-lock tupperware container. Mist water with a spray bottle, cover, shake and repeat until roughly 80% are clear then pour back into their containers. Fastest way I've found to do it.

It's also worth using a regular wire strainer from your kitchen and using it to shake out the dust and smaller bead fragments. I used to always have white chunks and dust throughout my humidors before I did this.

Does anyone have a problem keeping their 65% beads at 65%? I ordered 1 1/2 lbs a few weeks ago (2x the amount I need) and I cant get my coolidor below 68%. I had 70% beads for about 3 years and they worked fairly well. I have calibrated my hydrometer and all that. Do I just need to wait longer or is there an issue with the 65% beads? Also they are almost all white now, started of about 70% clear.

To check your beads you can put them in a ziplock with your hygrometer. But if they are mostly white, it sounds like they were releasing moisture and it may be they just need time to stabilize. :2

I havent had any issues with my 65% beads. But also remember this is the time of year that the weather is changing. In the coming months(just like in spring) we will see many threads asking about Rh and humidor issues.

I recently kept a shotglass of distilled water in my humidor to bump the humidity up a bit, my 65% RH heartfelt tube so far eh...after a month it's 59-60 RH.
