Anyone have recommendations for a compact car that will comfortably fit a 6'5'' frame? I always buy used and am wanting better gas mileage than my Dodge Intrepid.
Thanks!

do you need to be fully in it? Many convertibles come to mind if not. :)

Get a Neon , cut out a hole, and put one of those cool plastic sunroof dome things on it.

Was it comfortable for the longer drives? Thanks for the reply!

Volkswagen? Ya know those beetle looking things. My hot little neighbor had one and she needed a jump (the kind involving jumper cables :D ) - anyway, I sat in the thing and talk about being surprised - no problems fitting my 6-4" self in it. Plenty of leg and head room.
As the Fox said - maybe look at the Focus. Another neighbor has one and it seems to be pretty roomy also.

Sports- Mini Cooper
BMW bought the rights to the Mini and redesigned it for the American Market. It's wider and taller than its original British counterpart and that adds up to easier access for taller drivers.
My pal Wolf recommends the car saying, "I bought a MINI Cooper last year - the first one sold in San Francisco. I'm 6'7" and I fit in it perfectly! Leg room and head room! In fact, I think it would fit someone at least two inches taller than me. Of course, the back seat is useless, but it's a perfect city car for the taller guy. Don't get the version with the sun roof though - it takes 2 inches off the headroom."

After working on cars for 3 years, I can safely say that you are screwed if you want to find a cheap compact that has leg room. The Jetta had the most that I remembered and the miata had the least. Not much either way.

I figured if I read this enough times I would remember....
the VW GTI
buddy had a 1.8 down in Georgia...we fit all four of our 6'+ bodies in that little thing. Surprised the crap outta me. Plus, you get @ 25mpg.
Just a thought.
And if you want it rocket-powered, they make an R32.....just remember clean underwear....:D

the newer GTI's get 50 mpg on Diesel
My buddy who is 7" just bought a dodge charger. He looked for a smaller car, but he said nothing was comfortable in the compact range.

I am 6"3" with a 34" inseam and fit very well in my 2003 VW GTI and as well in the new Jetta (not too sure about the older models). I have also sat in and driven a 2003 Focus ZX3 and that was pretty good also.

I rented a Chevy Aveo for a trip from MD to TN. It had lots of room for the long trip. BTW I am 6'3", 6'5" in heels. (army boots, get your minds out of it)

Yup it was a great little car.
It sucked ass in snow though which is why I got rid of it.

I'm 6'3" and am very comfortable inside my '08 Honda Civic. Only had it for a year, but I absolutely love it. 30 mpg city/ 33 highway.

I am 6'2" and own a 2008 Hyundai Sonata, my buddy who is 6'4" fits in it very comfortably. Great car, good gas mileage, we got 32 mpg on a cross country trip and 234 horsepower keeps up the pace nicely. After owning one, I highly recommend them.

For long drives, 3 or more hours, I can't find a compact or standard size car that I am comfortable in. Anything with two doors is pretty much out for me, no matter what the distance. Granted I am every bit of 6'7'' and have a few knee problems to my credit.

uh....Don't ask, Don't tell.....
20 years of wearing boots and NEVER heard ANYONE refer to them as "heels"...
:lv
Back on topic...
Only downside I have with recommending a Scooter (er, Cooper) is that for guys our size, you gotta be the Yoga Master to get in and out of that driver's seat and door.

6'4" here (barefoot...I don't wear heels). I have a Saturn Aura. I get about 27-28mpg, and have plenty of room for myself and the rugrats (or adults) in the back (even with the seat all the way back). Lots of head room, too.
Main suggestion that I have is rule out anything with a sunroof. When we got my car last year, that is what I found out. couldn't get anything with a sunroof. I even don't have enough headroom in the Trailblazer because of it.

My fiancee has an 08 Civic that I have quite a bit of headroom in. I am 6'1", but long in the torso. No sunroof - that takes up an extra 2" or so.

Major, I'm 6'10" and the best compact car for the money with plenty of head & leg room is the "Honda Element". Not the best looking car, but a great buy!:tu

6'5" I drive an '03 Civic hatchback and it has plenty of room. The wife drives an '08 Civic sedan (both Si) and I don't have a problem with legroom in either car, and in the '08 people of normal height (5'6") can fit without issue. Also, it doesn't seem like a big deal, and often I prefer electric seats (especially if heated), but manually adjusted seats always seem to give a bit more legroom.
