That'll be a conversation piece. Do you have to take out the pendulum and chimes for storage, or are all the works up in the top?

The workings have been removed since this was a counter weight system. I just took the gears and and clock out and replaced the geared system with a battery system for the time being. When I find out where the wiring will be going for the humidification unit, fans, and LED lighting I will be looking into converting it into a Wired System. Cedar should be ordered in the next week or so if things work out right.

Great idea. I can't wait to see the end product! Now, if you could just figure out a way to set that clock faster, so that they'll age quicker... some kind of humidor/time machine?

That'll be very cool. Keep us updated. I have a clock on the wall in my shop that has a dead battery. When my BIL and I go smoke cigars we use to think it was getting late because it said 10:40 all the time. I got tired of thinking the evening was coming to a close so I turned it back to 8:15. Now we always have time for another cigar. :banger Hey, at least it's right twice a day.:r

Been slacking on the project a little bit, but I have made a little progress, sanded out the inside prepping for the Spanish cedar to be mounted. Still trying to find a local spot to pick up the cedar from because I like to support the local boys and their hard work. I am going to run with 2 120 MM fans in the unit to move mass volumes of air in minimal amounts of time. Was thinking about humidification and am leaning towards the Hydra SM Electronic Humidifier. pics coming soon.

girlfriend and I decided on the finish we want on the clock. I am not a huge fan of super glossy pieces of furniture so we are going with a Satin Ebony wood stain. The fans will be located at the top and bottom of the humi the bottom one will be mounted onto the grated bottom above the storage in the bottom where the humidification unit will be stored.

from what I understand you don't have to use spanish cedar, you just should use a hardwood that doesn't have a strong odor. The wood is more for regulating temp and RH fluctuations rather than for the cedary smell.

I was aware of this, but I have always lived by a saying my dad uses all the time. " if your gonna do something, you might as well do it right " With the regulation of RH being the primary function of the humi and well as a vessel to age the smokes in I am not gonna cut any corners. I found a place in seattle that has the wood I need, just found them today. Now its going to be a matter of coming up with the loot for the wood. :su

good luck with the humi. and BTW I wasn't implying that you should do it the wrong way, or cut corners. Just saying that you might be able to get another kind of wood that will work just as well and cost less, then you could spend the left over money on sticks to fill that beauty up :ss

This is why I like face to face interactions more hehe, I figured it wasn't meant to be negative, I appreciate all constructive criticism I think that is how projects turn out to be great instead of just good :)

Have you checked Woodworkers Source? I get it there for around 5 bucks a board foot. (A board foot is length x width divided by 144)
