Do you take a break or have a slowdown in your cigar smoking during part of the year? If so, when does it usually start and end?

I have slowdown at home beginning in the fall, but on warmer or dryer days, I still her outside on my (covered) patio. My herfing at the local cigar bars tends to go up as well. Overall tho, I think that I smoke about the same amount of cigars per week, just on a more erratic schedule.

What about you?

[side note: this would be a good thread to post the pics of your winterization of the herf area]

I tend to smoke more in the car in Winter.

I set out for Alki beach, (only about a mile from my place) find a place to park and enjoy the scenery; the car heater is my friend.

In the days before $3 gas, I would drive around a lot more.

Winter I definitely do slow down on the frequency on times I smoke cigars. Even with a small heater in the garage it's still far too cold to spend an hour or two out there. I'm debating getting a fire pit and trying to smoke on the back patio but I dunno how that'll work out just yet (would need some sort of cover as well). Any cigar smoking would typically be either at a herf or on Sunday if I'm at the Shilo watching football.

Though, it's also this time of year that my frequency of smoking pipe 'baccy picks up since I can start/stop depending on comfort level.

I won't know till this year...but I'm going to assume that I will be smoking less unless I get my butt to a cigar bar.

def slows down in the winter, and Katie won't let me smoke in the house  Mostly in the winter it will be in the car, herf's, or on the occasional warm afternoon day. Unfortunately there aren't any cigar bars around the Bloomington area. The winter seems to be the covet and hoard period in preparation for the warmer months lol

Mine definitely slows down during the cold months. This year I'm finally looking into winterization/heating options for the patio - looked at some electric and small propane heaters at Lowe's the other day.

I slow way down. I'll smoke in the car when driving an hour or so for work and in a cigar-friendly car on occasion. I'm thinking about a space heater for the garage but that's really not the most comfortable way to smoke. I use quite a bit more nasal snuff in the winter.

Gotta love the ventilation system in my basement. I smoke more in the winter because there is less to do outside.

Vegas here, I agree! I do have a gazebo I put up thin canvas tarps around and my heater, if I am outside (Vegas does have a cold side). But since we bought the house and I have a room dedicated to it, I will be there most of the time. My habits have incresed latley, and will remain steady for the most part.

Where I live in Florida, I smoke more in the winter, because it is so much nicer without the 100% humidity, giant Mosquitoes, sudden rain storms, and 90 Degrees at 10pm...

I have to retreat to the garage for cover. Definately not as much fun. The smokes get smaller and quicker unless I get one of those unseasonably warm days.

Definite slowdown because of the colder weather. I have a covered front porch and purchased a propane heater, so I might brave the cold a little more often this winter. If I clean the garage out and put in some ventilation, then I'll have another option. :D

Last weekend I had to bundle up and smoke on my porch. I'm talking two pants, two socks, two sweatshirts, hat, and gloves. It wasn't too cold but it was too much work. My days of smoking outside will be limited to a few more times during the day and no more at night. Guess I'll be going to a bar if I want to smoke:mad:

I don't miss that at all. Despite the inherent inconveniences, I like having more than 3 1/2 days of Winter.:ss

I definately slow down in the winter. I cut out any kind of outdoor smoking and keep it limited to an indoor lounge. I definately cut back on total consumption.

My lounge of choice any time of the year, Highland Cigars in Atlanta.

Remember our discussion? Just smoke inside and ask questions later lol...:D

In any event, I will be in the garage if I smoke at home. I doubt I will slow down much though cuz I just smoke in the car on the way home (I have a 80 minute commute). That takes care of the weekdays and then on weekends I smoke at the local B&M or herfs locally... :D

I just built a 14x16 man shed or as the neighbors call the foo foo shed(they are jealous) that will be my home away from home. You bet your arse I will be huffing and puffing in there, unless my wife tells me I cant!:D

Ahh good ol B'Town, if you come up for the Purdue game drop me a PM and maybe we can get together.

I started smoking in my basement last winter, the smell doesn't seem to last and there is very little down there to absorb the odor. Thus, my smoking will only slow down slightly.

I bought a decent sized ceramic heater for my 3 season porch, but I've had a nasty throat issue in the past few days (hoping it's not strep), so I haven't had a chance to try it out.

Since you can only smoke outside here once the rain moves in my cigar consumption takes a hit. I usually smoke my pipe more in the winter since it doesn't stink up a closed garage as much. There's a new Indian casino with a cigar lounge scheduled to open in two weeks and since it's only about a 15 minute drive away I'm hoping against hope that it turns out to be reasonably decent so I can *gasp* actually smoke in a public setting for the first time since moving out here three years ago.

I will be lucky to get in more more cigar. I usually cant get in a smoke from Dec until late March if I am lucky. No B/Ms around me and my parents flip **** if I even mention smoking in the basement room.

I smoke the same year round. Easy here in CA. Plus I have a sun room which helps when it gets rainy. I used to smoke more in the winter as I didn't like smoking in the heat. Now I just get the joneses for it all the time. :ss

I slow down to about a cigar a week once the cold/snow hits. Though I do tend to stock up on some nice cigars for the spring time!

I'm the same as most, it slows to a crawl when I have to put more than a sweatshirt and pants on. After that I only get to smoke in bars when the bar allows cigars as well as cigarettes. Sucks for sure, but I like the idea of a 14x16 man shed.

I posted this very same thread last year over in CS. It's a good one.

Winter for me (in terms of smoking) is a sad period. I tend to smoke a lot less because I don't have the facilities to smoke as I don't smoke in my house and I live in a condo. There are no "decent" B&M's around me that I'd warrant stopping in frequently to sit down, relax, and have a smoke while chit-chatting and watching sports. When I do smoke it's typically a smaller stick like the Short Story or the Rp Vintage Short Story look-a-like (don't know what it's called). I will also throw in a Robusto every now and then if the cold is manageable. The only time I will smoke like a champ is when friends of mine and I get together for a weekend night where we all stay over, eat a ton of food, drink a lot of beer and tequila shots, and we all brave the cold on a porch (my one buddy has one of those restaurant heaters which is nice).

Other than that, I really slow down. I move my humi in my closet and keep it as humidified as possible,

I need to move to a warm climate!!

I don't slow down but I go to my winter rotation of shorter smokes.

Instead of spending 1 1/2 hours or more on Robustos, Churchills, Lonsdales and whatnot, I move to PC's, Panetelas, Demi Tasse, and so on.

I kinda look forward to the change of pace.

Seanohue
10-22-2008, 06:11 PM
I haven't smoked a cigar in about 3 weeks. I really don't like the cold. My smoking goes down to 1-2 a month in the winter, from 3-4 a week in the summer.

St. Lou Stu
10-22-2008, 06:25 PM
Unfortunately it has already started.... the slowdown that is.

Right now it is somewhat bearable as it is only in the 40's at night when I usually relax on the back deck with one.

November will take it down to one or two a week, and the bitter cold of December, January, and February will take it down to just a few a month.
Smoking in zero and below zero temps SUX!!!

I live in Minnesota, so outdoor smoking is definitely limited in the cooler weather. I'll occasionally smoke in the garage if it's not too cold, but that's not really very nice. I'll also sometimes smoke while ice fishing, because then I'm dressed for being in the cold. Otherwise I'll visit a B&M sometimes.

groogs
10-23-2008, 09:40 PM
In the winter I still buy at my usual pace, but smoke only my small cigars. This means my collection grows by leaps and bounds during the winter months. When it is not raining I like to enjoy a nice smoke, but I tend to stick with the short smokes because I can't take the cold.
