View Full Version : La Riqueza: "oh my God this wrapper!"

Even though I do most of my buying over the internet, I like to pop in to the neighborhood B&M every couple weeks just to check out what's new. It's kinda cool actually, there's no zoning laws in Houston so the neighborhood cigar shop is literally on the other side of the street. Jealous? :D

Anyhow, I'm a big DPG/Pete Johnson fan, so I had heard of the La Riqueza line but never seen them. All I can say is woah, these are beautiful cigars. I haven't even smoked this bad boy yet but it looks soooo good. The wrapper has this two-tone cocoa look that I usually only see on CCs. Needless to say, I'm excited.

so please, share your opinions on this line. I'll update with a review later tonight. Right now PGA golf is making my eyelids...very...heavy.

I think you will like it. They are very good, imo. Which one did you pick up?

Pete Johnson is certainly making everyone stand up and take notice of his line of cigars. I have not had a bad one and the profile and taste of his cigars are great. Don't know how you can go wrong with any cigar he puts out.

This has become one of my favorites. I picked up the smaller size and loved it. I was really hoping that the flavor profile would stay the same with the bigger sizes so I picked up some belicoso's and they were just as great. Very smooth with alot of chocolate/cocoa flavors going on. Hope you enjoy it!

I really dig the #1 lonsdale and the #5 tres petite corona the best but they are all tasty.

I'm not jealous. :) I lived in Houston for 29 years. What B&M?

The La Riqueza's are awesome! I think they have a very similar taste to the Illusione 68's...a very unique flavor...one of my favs!

I live in Montrose. It's a rather new place called cigar Emporium on Shepperd at Richmond. A very friendly husband and wife own/run the place. They seem like they have a passion for cigars and really enjoy what they do.

'bout to fire up the grill, smoke some yummy Boudin and try out this cigar.

La Riquezza and Cabaguian and Tatuaje Havana IV's are my "go to" smokes when I stop at my B&M, without my small case. good price and excellent cigars, both! :tu

Nice pickup

I had to buy a box of the #3's (corona gorda) after smoking just one.

Another great PJ smoke is the El Triunfador Lancero. Well worth a try, if you haven't already.

Not long ago CigarMonster had a Pete Johnson 6 stick sampler that included a La Riquezza for $21. When I saw that I ordered 2! :dr

It's been a long time for me, I got some original release, a pc and robusto I believe, both were outstanding. I had it in my head that these would tail off in quality after they hit and took off ... so I kinda forgot about them.

I assume current stuff is good?

I tried to take a picture of the pretty marbled wrapper that caught my eye in the store. and then I got silly with the camera.

I'm finally getting a chance to smoke before I put on the tv and retire for the evening. This cigar is an absolute pleasure, one of those sticks you just don't want to end. It's pretty firm, feels heavy and the draw is perfect. not too loose but I'm getting plenty of smoke.

It started off very spicy. There's no sweetness, mostly pepper and leather with a slightly perfumed aftertaste, which is my personal preference. sort of like a Cuban Boli or Partagas. I could get addicted to these.

This has been an excellent change of pace. I usually just buy a box or 5 pack and smoke my way through it which is boring I admit. but I know what I like so I don't try as large a variety of cigars as I used to. Lately I've been smoking out of a box of Montecristo #4s and this bold Riqueza was able to hang right along side the full flavored Montes.

It's getting a little bitter near the band so I'm going to call it quits but I must say, I am continually impressed by Don Pepin and Pete Johnson. here's bonus picture of Mittens on the balcony.

also, for any travel channel fans, I just saw Andrew Zimmern is going to be in Cuba on next Tuesday's show. If I think about it I'll post a reminder thread. cheers!
