Cigar: Opus X Robusto
Size: 50 x 5"
Filler: Dominican Republic
Binder: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Dominican Republic
Price: $55 (yes $55, not a typo. This is a normal price in Australia.)
Drink: Elijah Craig 12 Year Old Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey
Smoking time: 90 minutes

Hey guys, I have been keeping this Opus X Fuente Fuente Robusto in my humidor for about 6 months waiting for my birthday. So yesterday the 21st of August was my 24th birthday so I fired it up.

The construction was good, but suprisingly not as good as the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos I have had, The wrapper split about 2/3 the way down. Oh and of course there was way to much glue spilt over from the band, this is so common from Arturo Fuente and something they really need to address. The draw was perfect, lots of thick smoke, not to loose not to tight.

The flavour was fantastic, very very woody and cedar flavours which I love in a cigar, there was no spice which I was suprised about.

This was very strong in nicotine I had to take a nap after. This cigar burnt very slowly which was great, I got about 90 minutes out of this. However it needed a couple of touch ups.

The Elijah Craig 12 Year Old Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey was a fantastic drink to pair it with. I had it on the rocks.

Draw: 10/10
Flavour: 10/10
Construction: 8/10
Burn: 7/10
Flavour: 10/10

Overall: 9/10

I won't buy it again because of the Australian price tag. If it were a price of say $30 I would put a few in my humidor. I often smoke Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Double Robustos and I would say that the Don Carlos is a better smoke.

Enjoy the pictures.

Thanks for the review James. I agree with you about AF and their overly generous glue on the bands.

It's a shame that a cigar that you rate so highly and like so much is off limits because of price. Great review, and Happy Birthday. :)

Glad you enjoyed the birthday smoke!

I love the Opus X as well... and feeling very grateful that I have not had to pay anywhere near that for one. Sorry, bro.

So what is your common day-to-day smoke? What does an average premium cigar cost you there? Just curious. :ss

Common day to day smoke would be a Montecristo Petit Edmundo. They are $22ea here. I pay alot of money to enjoy this hobby.

Ahh come on gents, lets not pitty him too much with the access and selection of al the ISOM smokes down under I bet he gets to smoke some nice ones.
All kidding aside Happy Birthday, it is to bad that the price is soooo high. Glad you enjoyed great smoke for your birthday. The cedar sticks are a nice touch, that is one method I have yet to light a smoke with. Great review and pictures!!!

Happy birthday James!! :hb Another great review. I'm surprised to hear the wrapper split on you. The only Fuente I've experienced this with are the DCs during the winter. Ouch...the price hurts too.

Haha, its funny you say that, because I actully prefer Non-Cubans yet they are very hard to aquire here.
