Totally random, but when you eat a whole steamed lobster, what is the green gunk and are you supposed to eat it? I felt so wasteful getting a whole lobster put down on my plate, and only eating the claws and tail.
Any advice on eating lobster?

It's called the roe, and considered by some to be the best part of the lobster.
I think it's nasty.

Proper name for it is tamale, I think that it sucks. Claws and tail are where it's at. The legs also have some nice sweet meat if you suck it out of them. I have lobstered for years and really am not a fan. I might eat about 4 a year. I know that my wife and a bunch of lobstermen love the tamale but I look it as liver in other words inedible.

I'd prefer a big old pile of crab over lobster. To me, it just tastes better.

The green part is nasty and I'm not one the waste food. The Tomalley fulfills the functions of the liver and pancreas.

I stick to the tail and claws. I'm not adventurous enough to eat the other stuff.

When lobster's good and sweet, it's hard to beat. When it tastes like iodine, blech.
I love lobster. I don't eat the tamale. I don't do that with crawfish either. If I want some poop, I'll hit the litter box. :)
Grilled lobster basted with butter can't be beat, but I do love me some snow crab, too. I think I enjoy clams the most though. Depends the mood I'm in.
I can eat snow crab and shrimp pretty much any day.

Am I the only one who thinks that oysters look like a giant wad of mucus?

Red is roe, green is hepatopancreas and is where the contaminants such as mercury are concentrated. I avoid this stuff although I ate a lot as a kid.

I always eat the green and red stuff. It's quite good on toast.:tu The only stuff we don't eat on lobster is the shell (inside or out) and the stomach.
Here a shot of my first lobster boil this summer.

Scott, I hate to break it to 'ya bud but that ain't no lobster....that thar is a SEA MONSTER!! Holy hell!
Am I the only one who thinks that oysters look like a giant wad of mucus?
Oh, but such yummy wads of mucous they are!!! :tu
I eat everything....lobster meat in the tail, claws, legs, head, anything I can get to...shell, bring it on!
But I didn't know about the mercury being concentrated there, oops. The tamale is great to put on bread...now, I've had irresistable green goop and stuff that kinda grossed me out (especially at the beginning when I turned on to the stuff) but I'll eat it gladly. Please pass me yours.

I love seafood, but I love lobster most of all. I eat it all, except the shell and some parts I'm told not to eat, but I love that green stuff, I also like the yellow stuff in Blue crabs too though...

Actually bro, it did. It was probably one of the better Lobsters I have had which is suprising considering the "experts" say that the bigger the lobster, the tougher and less sweet it is, not true in this case.

Damn...making me hungry here (not for the green goop). Been a while since I've had good lobster, ann if I can choose, I'll take Dungeness Crab all the time. :D A casino near us used to have that on their seafood buffet days, but then they switched it all to snow crab. :(
I want crab now...and lobster!
