View Full Version : Cigars And Creme Soda?

I just took a little break from work - if you can call this work - to enjoy a short smoke. As it is pretty hot and sticky here in Joisey today, I grabbed a Boylan Creme Soda out of the cooler to have with my Partagas Purito. Tons of flavorful smoke from this Marlboro-sized tinned beauty, a 4.25X32 EMS, with just enough pepper to make it interesting. And you may not believe how good it went with that ice-cold creme soda! The soda was not too heavy as to overpower the cigar, just as the cigar was not to strong to burn out the soda. I was shocked, and most pleasantly so.
Hey, don't knock it 'til you tried it, brothers. :ss

Jones Cream Soda is my favorite by far and yeah it goes great with a cigar. IBC isn't a bad second place.

For a regionally-appropriate, roller-approved variation, try champagne cola.
Meanwhile, I will second the IBC recommendation. The lighter carbonation on display makes it extra quaffable with a burning stick.

9 times out of 10 my drink paring with a cigar is some type of soda. Water does not "clense the palate" between puffs like a soda.
Water may be better when really trying to evaluate all the flavors of the cigar because it does have any other taste. But I like that after a swig of soda it''s kind of like tasting the cigar for the first time/p*ff(sorry) again. :2

You are assuming it was because of the soda, I presume. ;)
So yesterday I tried an H. Upmann Cambio with Boylan Root Beer, figuring the slightly fuller flavor of this cameroon baby might go well with the heavier soda. It was, well OK, maybe because the combo wasn't right or maybe because I rushed the two together (my boss showed up for the first time in 2 weeks inna middle of the test). If the root beer works for you, that's fine - me, I liked the creme soda grouping much better.
Guess my next test will be with the Boylan Black Cherry. :dr

Is it ginger ale mixed with creme soda and sewage water from "the D"?

Virgils Cream Soda or Root Beer. After drinking this stuff you won't wanna go back to IBC or Barq. I buy mine at earth fare but you can check the website to see if they sell near you. Its all microbrewed and they made a science out of it. www.virgils.com

I still think it's toward the lighter end of the carbonation spectrum, though. I find the level just right- quaffable, but not just sugar-water.

I 'm doing a Vegas Cubana and Virgils Cream Soda right now and I love it! It seems bring out the flavors more than what I have tasted before for these smokes. I almost pulled out a 601 red but I thought it might overpower the cream soda.

A bit OT, but I've been trying out different ginger beers in a quest to make the perfect Dark & Stormy. I really had low expectations for the Goya, being that it was the cheapie in my little collection.
Underestimated!
We have a winner and a fantastic combination with a good dark rum. Haven't done the cigar match-up yet, but I'm expecting oral fireworks when I hook that baby onto something DPGish. Yum, and... look out!

What does a Dark N Stormy taste like? Is the ginger overpowering? Have been curious about these for some time now. Please let me know. (Sorry for the thread jack)

What does a Dark N Stormy taste like? Is the ginger overpowering?
It's very dependent on the ginger beer, itself- hence my methodical search. That said, I haven't managed to make a not-good tasting one yet.
It's a very tasty summer flavor. Ginger beer, but with much rounder body and dimension. Personally, I like a strong ginger beer, but I don't find it too dominant in the drink because the ginger strength is usually effervescent and kind of rides on top of the primary taste rather than interferes with it.

So last week I tried another Partagas with the Boylan Black Cherry. As with the root beer, it was decent, but not as good as I felt the creme soda had been. To double-check, I just had that original pairing, and I was right - for me anyway, the cigar/creme soda works the best. Only problem, since the Boylan's come in a clear glass longneck, passerbys think I'm chugging a Corona. :r

I've often paired cigars with rootbeer, but never tried the creme soda option. Finally got myself some Jones Creme Soda and had it with a RP Fusion natural. Me likey! I think I will pair creme sodas with CTS and root beer with darker, spicier, fuller smokes.
