So today I get an email from Xikar. I sent in my 009 punch and my xi3 cutter. Someone along the way from the USPS had opened my package and stolen my damn cutter  I didn't ship with insurance so that's my fault, but don't we all have a reasonable thought that our packages will not be open? Here's the email.

Andrew,

Hello. We received your return package this morning, however it seems like there was a thief along the way. The package arrived partially torn open at the top and all that was inside was your letter, the Punch, and the cutter sheath. No cutter. So if you would please email me back and let me know what cutter you sent in to be sharpened I will have everything taken care of. Thank you.

Kudos to Xikar for letting me know about the stolen cutter and it appears they are going to replace it for free. What a great company. I will continue to support Xikar for their customer service and great products.

Ok venting over.

I have to agree, excellent way for Xikar to step-up to the plate for USPS' mistake.

It doesn't sound like theft to me. Why would they leave the sheath? It sounds like the box tore open in shipping and the cutter fell out. If anything, they might be guilty of carelessness.

Booo USPS, Hooray Xicar.

A big + for Xicar in the customer service column. Being an avid reader of The Consumerist (http://consumerist.com/), it's heartwarming to read stories like this.

Glad it all ended for the best! I must admit, as sour as I am at the USPS at times, they actually do one helluva job. In many countries, it is the exception, not the rule that your stuff gets stolen.

Considering how much mail they handle, I'd say they do a pretty good job. And, hopefully, when they blow it, the vendor or other party will be good enough to make things right.

All's well that ends well, I reckon!

Well you do have the benefit that USPS is the only shipping service with its own police force to investigate this problem. :tu

Great customer service. I don't think it was stolen but as someone else it probably just fell out of the box. We do a pretty good job at the P.O. but of course you always have bad people everywhere.

That is typical of the great customer service we see in the cigar industry as a whole. What a great bunch of folks :tu. Don't you wish every industry had that kind of integrity? I do.

Pretty hard for us to open a cardboard box by accident, but I have seen envelopes and padded mailers that get caught in the machinery and torn up pretty good. Something hard and lumpy should be sent in a box so it can't get caught on anything. Sorry you are pissed off at us.

The USPS does a great job overall. It's a humungous operation.

I lived in Italy for 4 years in the 80s and I received approximately 50% of the parcels sent to me from the US.

A sad story with a happy ending, just the way I like it. :tu
+1 for Xikar, they have some of the best customer service around. Don't beat up USPS too badly, sometimes I'm amazed how well that machine runs. Although, I've been where your at and I know it's frustrating when it doesn't go the way it's intended.

Kudos to Xikar for being pro customer service oriented. Note to self and others,,,,if you send something out ensure that you put some money out for insurance just in case.

Props to Xicar!!! They're now on the need to list because of this. Funny thing is I've always had the best luck with USPS. I even had a guy wrap a bicycle frame in cardboard and have it arrive in perfect shape. UPS could mess up a car wreck.

I hope it was the machinary and not an employee. I guess my thread title pulls the trigger at USPS when it may not entirely be their fault. I sent it in one of those plastic type bubble mailers as Xikar recommended. I can't imagine that it fell out as the leather case was in the package and so was my punch. If it fell out wouldn't it all fall out? I know for next time to ship in a box. First time I've had trouble with the mail and my overall experiance is great with USPS, just mad at the time and had to vent!

Check that...I HAD a Palio. It has disappeared. I believe it might have gone out with the trash:(

I kept it on my table but sadly I believe that it might have gotten knocked off into the trash and dumped today. So my next cutter will be a Xikar even though I loved my Palio!
