The Missus and I were in Oregon at one of our favorite B&Bs -- Edgefield (http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=3) this week and the Golden Age of cigar smoking is over. The days of smoking in Adirondacks (or rockers) on the veranda are gone. :( The new Oregon smokig law has eliminated nearly all comfortable smoking places there -- and (from what I understand) all indoor smoking or smoking within 10 feet of doors, windows, intakes vents, etc. unless it is a clearly established "cigar bar". How is this faring with the Stumptown boys?

Not well.

I only know of one place to have a cigar right now. And it aint my back porch.

EDIT to clarify... the back porch rule is cus of my apartment complex, not the state laws :D

I know of 4 places around town where you can light up inside. We manage, but I miss smoking in regular bars. Especially the Horse Brass. Most of the Mcmenamins that don't have a separate building for smoking have banned it all together.

So, you can or cannot smoke in the cigar bar @ Edgefields? I'm going to be sad if they've shut that aspect down.

If you guys don't mind my asking, where are the cigar bars in the PDX area?

I did some searching. It looks like there are still cigar bars (http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=102&id=1162)@ various MCMENAMINS locations.

And I'm glad I looked. There are a couple of cigar-related events in August that look interesting.

Kennedy School Cigar event. (http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=57&id=81&eventid=72882)

Edgefield Cigar Event. (http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=3&id=484&eventid=73116)

Outside of the "the Sheds" for McMenamins, the only other cigar bar that I'm aware of would be the sports/cigar bar inside the Shilo Inn in Beaverton. I don't know if the Shilo Inn by PDX still have their sports/cigar bar anymore (don't see it listed on their website).

This law change has severely reduced the number of (public) places we can meet at for herfs and gatherings.

For a second I thought the law was blocking you from smoking at your home.

Still that is terrible news

Just to clarify -- the one acceptable place at Edgefield is the "Little Red Shed". I assume that the "Detention Bar" is still the acceptable indoor smoking venue at Kennedy. The real loss (IMHO) is smoking at the Distillery and the porches. They need more Adirondacks out on the lawns.

Interesting link to the Scotch & Cigar event -- the printed material they had there had no mention of cigars: only Scotch & fine food !

We are in dire need of a McMenamins here in New Jersey . I've been to those mentioned and absolutely love them , great spots . My older sister used to live in Beaverton and has since moved across the river to Vancouver . Beautiful part of the country you folks live in . I'll be vacationing out there in the summer of 2010 again , love all the local brews . Is the Mission Movie House part of the McMenamins family ?

Geez......in WA you can't even smoke anywhere indoors or within 25 feet of a door or window. The only place to light up is on indian reservations.

This has all happened since I was last at Edgefields (and Kennedy School) a few months ago :(
