OK what do I use? Priceline, Hotwire etc?

Looks to me that using the name your price feature on Priceline might be the way to go.

Any thoughts from the pros?

Thanks in advance

Not sure about hotels, but using Priceline name a price for our rental car on the honeymoon saved us about 300$ over everyone else. :2

hotwire will allow you to compare several other travel sites pricing. However the reason I dont like booking a hotel through these companies is that they charge you in advance for your stay.

What ive done successfully in the past is to call the hotel directly and tell them you got $XXX.XX price on whatever site and see if they will match it, then book through them. They will typically only hold your room with a credit card, or sometimes charge you a one night deposit. Ive done this on several occasions.

If you are going to use Priceline, try checking out the forums on this site:

< wrong link??? >

You can get great deals here, but remember, you do not pick your room. If you want a King, you may get stuck with two doubles.

I'm a Hotwire lover - used it a bunch of times and saved lots of $$.

I use Hotwire to get a feel for the going discount rate available and then I go to priceline and start bidding around 20 - 30% less than Hotwire. Also, I've found some great deals on travelzoo.

Priceline all the way for hotels. Never used it for anything else. It took me a while to get used to the fact that you don't know the name of the hotel until it is final but It has worked for us a few times.
