Of all the many ice reams i've tried, I still keep going back to Breyers mint chocolate chip. Simple, tasty, widely available.

1) Melona Ice Cream bars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melona). You can find them as large Asian grocers. The Melon is by far the best and tastes like fresh melon. The other flavors are crap. If you have never had one, these are OUTSTANDING.
2) The new B&J Imagine Whirled Peace is outstanding! Caramel Ice Cream with toffee cookies and hard fudge chunks. They might as well sell this stuff in drip form so I can just hook myself up and let it drain alllllllllll night long.
3) I have a buddy who makes old fashined french style ice cream.... heavy cream, egg yolks, sugar and vanilla. This is the base. You add bananas or whatever real flavoring you want. It is simple but top not in top notch out.

That entire line is really good. The cookies and cream and the mint chocolate chip/brownie ones are particularly good. And then they have seasonal blends, like pumpkin in the fall, which are also excellent. I would never guess they were lower fat if I didn't see the label.
As for non-reduced fat ice creams, it is a toss up between mint chocolate chip and cherry chocolate chip. Mmmmm.

My wife's family lives near what I believe is the original Handels in the Cleveland area. Their ice cream is hands down the best I have ever tasted. The grape, blueberry cheesecake, and chocolate pecan are all awesome.

My favorite USED to be the black cherry flavor that the Clemson Univeristy AG organization would make up and sell. It was delicious, rich, creamy, flavorful, and fresh. A few years back, due to rising demand, they outsourced the production to (I think) Mayfield. I'm not sure if they're making it themselves again, but the ice cream never recovered :(
