Guys,

I had a friend of mine ask a question as to at what times during the year are Opus X's released to retailers, any idea? I thought it was around Father's Day and Christmas but I'm not sure. Any help is appreciated.

I heard the one down the block from me got them in April which is how the discussion started. Maybe it is regionally released at different times?

I think the Opus are released throughout the year. The Anejos I believe are/used to be released only a couple times a year. That could have all changed.

I know last year my local b&m got them in around september or october

Whenever I ask the 2 B&M's close by to me when they get shipments, they both say the same thing "We don't know...we get them when we get them". :r I do know Anejo's get a shipment in around X-Mas time usually. Opus X's I have no idea other than around Father's Day.

Not exactly sure, but is it a coincedence they always seem to be in stock around Father's day and Christmas?

Quarterly on the Opus X, usually, but check with local B&M!

I know Anejos are supposed to be out for Father's Day, but for the life of me, they are cutting it close, cause none of the B&Ms near me have any.

Yeah, seriously.
Doesn't look like there's gonna be any Anejo's for Father's Day, and I haven't got any emails from Darlene the Cigar Girl.
Someone call her and see what she says. :tu

I'm pretty sure Fuente does whatever Fuente wants. regarding when things are released and who gets what.

:tpd:

That is typically how things have worked in the past. If you had a Opus X account, you received the "special" stuff when they send it to you. There is no ordering for it. I have heard that things might be changing soon, but as far as I know Fuente ships stuff to where he wants, when he wants. :tu

You will pretty much see a LOT of good stuff around Father's day and X-mas though cuz those are a couple of cigar holidays. :banger

Holts had only Anejo #55 and OpusX #4 and OpusX #5 last Saturday.
They have Anejo #50 in their Four Seasons Sampler.

There were limits on the Opus(2), and maybe the Anejo (I don't remember),
which is normal at Holts. That's 2 per day, so if you live/work near Holts
you can get alot of them in a week. I make a special trip now and then.

I got the feeling that they didn't get their Father's Day shipment yet, and had
some back stock from Xmas on the shelves at Walnut St.

They had lots and lots of WOAMs and VSGs in stock, among even higher end
Fuentes. WOAMs and VSGs are good with me! :)

If Holts has limited Opus/Anejo stock, there isn't much around.

Fuente sent out a shipment in March to beat the tax increase that hit on April 1st. I pretty sure we won't see anything until November, but like it has been stated already, Fuente ships what they want when they want. You get them, an invoice and pay them accordingly. One of my B&Ms still has quite a few, partly due to price, partly do to low demand.

I honestly don't know and I've never smoked one so I might as well ask now.

I was at a B&M and overheard a couple of guys talking, one tells the other that the Anejo is a maduro Opus. Is that correct? No one else sitting around disagreed.

The names of the various Aņejo vitolas (eg "No.48") are derived from the ring gauge of the cigar in question (except for the "Shark"; see below).

Aņejo (which means "aged, refined" in Spanish) cigars were originally released in June 2000 (in a very small batch), and then again in December 2000 due to Fuente being skittish about whether enough Opus X tobacco would be available after the hurricane hit their farm in 1998.

Aņejos have a blend of Opus X, Don Carlos, and Hemingway filler, with Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrappers that are cured in cognac barrels after they've been aged.

Opus came out 3 times last year, and Anejos are only coming out for Christmas. While Opus is supposed to be out for father's day, we haven't gotten any yet.

I bought a bunch of Opus yesterday at my local Tobacco Depot. They did have 3 vitolas in, but only had 2 left when I was there. Perfection X and Robusto.
I also just bought some Anejos directly from Tampa Sweethearts.

From what I understand...most B&M's will not put out their entire stock...they save some for prefered customers, and for odd times.

I don't think that "most" do this but yes some do, I would think that most would be happy to sell their product to whomever wants to come in and buy it.

Most may be overstating, but If I owned a cigar shop, I would be sure to set aside stuff for friends and special customers.

We have a call list at my shop. They are told before anyone else that Opus has arrived. They are still limited to a minimum of 5 cigars but they will bring their wives, kids, cousins and friends to pick up more. :r Frankly, they are the only ones that really know what the Opus X is. We had a shipment arrive last Wednesday.

I hate to bump a 4 month old thread but I was curious about the WOAM's and didn't want to clutter the board with another thread. Does anyone know when the WOAM's or any other hemi maduros come out? I've never seen them in any of my local B&M's. And I can't find them online without paying a redonkulous price.

It will most likely be out around Xmas time, although I have seen them around at a few B&M. Sometimes you just gotta get lucky on these.

Well, Momscigars.com has between the lines and untold stories. A lot more boxes of work of art maduro's have been coming up on different online cigar distributor's. Opus come's out 3 time's a year, tobacco license's at least 10 years old usually 20 years old get opus. Fuente take's care of there older customer's. I hear that more opus is coming out in november and anejo's ship out after thanksgiving hits shelfs in December. Shop's cant order this stuff, but with the bad economy I've seen more and more anejo's, opus X, hemi maduro's, specialty stuff like untold stories and between the lines. Maybe shops are unloading the special stocks to boost sales, maybe fuente's sales are down or the cigar industry as a whole, i don't know. But I have seen a lot of this stuff available without the usual limits shops put on Opus X.

El Fumador
10-20-2009, 03:18 PM
And the best way to get all this stuff, is by asking for it everytime you go in a shop or order online ( in the comment boxes ). Most of the time retailer's don't have enough stock to post inventory, but they got single's laying around.
