View Full Version : Acid? Whut?

I made the mistake of sniffing one, and I had to suspect that they have either found a way to mass produce Monica Lewinskis using 80 year old grandmas who bathe in arthritis cream, or somebody let a cat into the humidor who had been chewing on salted mackerel livers and drinking huge amounts of water out of an unflushed toilet.

I remember years back a truly horrid cigar produced for the "skater punk" subculture that smelled almost exactly like this, the Lars Tetens. I have to suspect it's the same maker. Some kindly soul needs to write them and let them know that the big white mints harvested fresh and dripping wet from public urinals are not, in fact, the best humidifiers for your long term cigar storage.

I did not dare smoke it. I put it down slowly and backed out of the humidor. For all I know it was contagious and I am already doomed. But for the love of Ghu, will someone please explain what these people were thinking? Eau de Ben Gay and chemical toilet with the subtle nuttiness of used cat litter is *not* a good cigar flavor. They did this to those cigars on purpose?

When I first started smoking cigars, I liked the Acid Kuba Kuba. I've not had one in well over a year and have no idea what I'd think about them now.

I've also had an Acid Blondie and Nasty. Both struck me as the latter. But hey, that's me.

Smoke what you like, like what you smoke.

One of my dealer friends said that she liked the Blondie Acids and I should try one. Well I had never heard of an Acid before that so I bought one. Stuck it in my mouth and immediately spit the lil sucker out.

I didn't know it tasted so much like my ex-wife. Dang! Not enough listerine in the world to remove that taste. I felt that I had cheated on my current wife. I had to go back in and find a Ghurka to remove the flavored scent from my truck.

Needless to say, I don't follow that dealer's advice anymore. I'll stick to my regulars! Eeeewww...

I would rather smoke the worst Gurhkas they make (and I hear those can be pretty bad) than get my lips anywhere near a stick that smells like it has been marinated in a combination of cheap perfume and Vicks VaporRub. I think they must have stuck these in my grandma for extra flavor. And it was pretty rude of them to dig her up for that purpose. :r

When I was distributing cigars in Afghan everyone wanted flavored cigars. I sent a box to a small team site and was surprised with what I got back via text message. The box I sent them had a lot of premium smokes. It even had a box of 5 vegas and rocky patel. The text said next time can you send some flavored cigars. So I did the only thing I could do I called Fred and posted up here . I even had to get a special cooler for them. Didn't want them ruining the good smokes :r

Another note worth pointing out is this....

Acids bring in a lot of brand new smokers to this hobby of ours and that is a GREAT thing. I am working on making it a personal venture to get as many to slide down the slope as I can!

By the way, I have yet to taste one. I can't bring myself to do it. Mainly because of the smell they have I truly fear it would taste like spraying bad cologne in my mouth.

Both of these are favorites of mine, as well as the Chateau Real line. Drew DOES make some very good regular cigars. The LVH line also includes a corojo wrapper and a african cameroon wrapper that I like better than the connie.

I personally like the Tabak Especial Colada cigars from DE; I occasionally smoke them on the way to work in the morning. They have just a slight coffee flavor - not overpowering like the Java. About a 25 - 30 minute smoke.

Both of my sons started on Acids - the oldest has graduated to real sticks now, but the 24 y/o still likes a Kuba-Kuba or Blondie instead of a cigarette once in a while... YMMV...

Thanks for the thought, but I have too many good cigars to burn Thursday. If the coolador ever runs empty I'll PM ya for it. I really have no desire to try any more DEs. Smoked about 5 - 7 different CAOs and have yet to like one of those, so, no more of them.

well I'm a pretty young guy and first grabbed an Acid when my dad went to pick up some other 'normal' cigars for his friends, I knew nothing at the time and my dad didn't know much about cigars either. I was kinda hooked on the small Acid's, the blondie and some of the cigarette sized ones...shared them with friends and whatnot and had fun with them; they are a really soft smoke and smell crazy. It was only a month after I found out about them that I heard they were flavored and not 'real cigars'. Recently I have been testing the waters with the Oliva's, Rocky P. Edge, bunch of different AF's, a Punch, and a bunch of others and am starting to really getting into it. The Acid's were fun to start out with but these are just so much better and different.

I can say one thing on this subject. Say you are a Acid smoker. You hear that they are not REAL cigars and get
some other models and you think, "Hmm, these just taste like tobacco, and they taste the same all the wy through.
I like the weird flavors of my OLD cigars." What do you do? You go back to Acids and enjoy yourself. There is no shame
in smoking that strange stuff if you like it and can afford them. It is much better for all of us if you keep smoking cigars,
not dropping them after "graduating" and hating Real Cigars. Unless of course, you leave your butts around and people
end up hating all of us because of YOU. ;)

ACID's aren't as bad as people make them out to be. If I hadn't taken up smoking again a couple of years ago with ACID's...I wouldn't appreciate the cigars I do today. Fortunately for me...I was able to find somebody at a local B&M to buy my 100 count humi filled with nothing but ACID's. Apparently...they benefit from time as well. Coke/Pepsi, Ford/Chevy, Beef/Pork...smoke what you like, like what you smoke. Would I smoke an Acid, no, would I look down on someone who does, HELL NO. It's your cigar, enjoy it, hell, maybe the super premium cigar your smoking someone else thinks is dog ****, and you know what, they're right...to them, to you, different story. Shallow minded OP

Something I posted on another forum back in 2008:

When I first started smoking good cigars, like most guys, I did a noObIe sampler here with a great BOTL. One of cigars in there (and there were a ton of good ones) was one of the little Acid 'gars from the tins; it was a "Acid Krush Classic Morado Maduro". The thing came triple bagged and I didn't know why until I opened the bags.....holy crap, this thing had an "aroma" to it. Truth is, I kinda wanted to like it. Thought they might be an interesting diversion, an interesting change up in the smoking rotation. I was stupid enough to actually try to smoke the thing.

Pre-light, the overpowering "aroma" from this thing was strangely familiar. I couldn't figure it out. Then.....it hit me. Years ago, when I was a little kid, I had a really cool uncle that I used to pal around with a bit; Uncle Mel. Uncle Mel was a great guy but he used to wear a little too much "Old Spice" cologne. That was it...!! This stupid thing smelled exactly like it had been dipped in "Old Spice" cologne...!!

I put flame to this thing and the reek and overwhelming odors were in full effect. Like smoking a stick of cheap incense. Oh my god, this thing was awful. Took a second and a third puff to confirm my revulsion, and that was that. That wretched dog turd of a smoke hit the tray forever. I had to power hork two cheap ass bundle sticks to get the taste out of my mouth. I had to use brake cleaner on my stinky to get the reek off the stainless steel. I washed and washed my hands and they still smelled like they'd been shoved up the Avon lady's ass.

Now, here's the interesting part - every, and I do mean EVERY B&M I can recall visiting has these darn smokes in stock! I always ask; "....do you guys sell many of those..??..." and the answer is always the same; "...yep! We sell a bunch of them. Hard to believe it, isn't it..??...".

Well, brothers, I always say "smoke what you like, like what you smoke" so if these are up your alley, more power to you. I promise I'll keep away from them so there will be more for you other guys..... ;)

OK, I am no longer an ACID virgin. Had the Blondie tonight, basically one-third of a Lancero....the TOP third, lol.
Pigtail head, golden wrapper, SWEET taste at the head, the unpleasant shock lasted about 3/16ths of an inch and
then it became a NC cigar like any other with only occasional hints of infusion poking in and out, something I think
that people who like these find enjoyable. This was a good cigar, not a great cigar, but certainly not some horriffic
turd-mobile. Based on it's performance and flavor and my standards.....ehhh, 76 pernts.

Every so often if I want my wife to hang out while I'm smoking, I'll light up one of the more chocolate/coffee/fruity-flavored Acids because she prefers that aroma to a standard cigar.

I did not think they where that bad. Infact quite enjoyable. When you take a wiff of one it smells almost like...Lavender, sandlewood and musk. I love the smell of them.

This thread is freaking hilarious!

I had an Acid a couple of weeks ago, & I was like wtf?

Now mind you, I'm a relative noob, but ugh!

I think that's why the tears in my eyes are from the posts made by some here, because I TOTALLY understand...

Lol, I have smoked some nasty dog rockets. And I would take an ACID of one of them anyday.

My first cigar was an Acid Toast, I thought the taste left on my lips was delicious.
I think it is the best cigar to give to a noob to get them into cigars.
I also tried the Acid Kuba, tasted more like tabacco than the toast.

if you love a sweet taste on your lips, you gotta try the Toast!
I look forward to going back and smoking another now that I have tried so many other brands and styles.

I went to a local shop the other day and they where sold out of all Acids.

An ACID Blondie was the first cigar I've ever laid down after 1 puff. Nasty!
But, Drew Estate does make some great sticks such as the Liga Privada T52 and #9. But, because of ACIDS, I didn't try a Drew Estate product for a long time and I was extremely surprised at the LP's.

One of my first Acid's was a Nasty.
They werent kidding.

I am a sucker for some Drew Estate Java's though. Hard to find around my area unfortunatly.

The first time I encountered an acid cigar was a long time ago when I hadn't even heard of them. I was chilling in a lounge enjoying my cigar and started thinking "holy crap! Who's the D-bag wearing WAY too much cologne?!!" When I found out what it was I prayed I'd never get caught sitting in a room with one of those burning again. I've tried a couple without finishing them. Just can't get into those "unique" flavors I guess. I do, though, have to mention the impeccable construction/quality.
