Ok, here are 5 pipes that are the best examples I could find on the website of what people said they wanted. I am going to have you all vote for the shape you would like the best (we're not voting on the exact pipe). Also, I will have an option for smooth or rusticated, please choose one (so JM knows how many of each).
I counted 15 defintely and 6-7 maybes on the other thread, based on this, I want to set an initial limit of 20 pipes. I would rather him need to pick up 1 or 2 extra later, than for him to have 3-4 leftover pipes that he can't sell because it has our "stamp" on it. feel me?
Please vote (select all that apply) on ONE pipe, and ONE finish. (pipes are 1-5 from left to right)
Also, I will include a choice for size of the pipe, please choose medium or large. again, there will be variability, but it'll be a good indicator of size for your pipe.

Oh yeah, post up any suggestions for our club signature
CA09, CAPF09, etc.

I like CA/09 OR CA2009
I think that "CA09" will look too much like "CAO" with a nine when carved in so it must be separate some how.

I agree, CA/09 is fine.
If not too long, Asylum 09 would be perfect, IMO.

Pipe 4/Smooth/medium, although I also kind of like pipe #2
CA/09 is also cool, but I too like the idea of Asylum 2009 or 09 :tu

Pipe #4, Smooth, Larger preferably but I'm ok with a medium. Thanks for setting this up.

I like Pipe #2/Smooth/Large. I say on whatever pipe we get we get the rim of it rusticated. That way you don't have to worry about burning the top.
Asylum 09 or CA2009

Since Boswell dates the pipe when he carves it, maybe just Asylum for the club ingraving? I don't know, just throwing that out there.

this was my thought as well (even though I initially put 09 in my suggestions)
it will be dated with his signature, then we could have asylum, and the individual's initials

Something to think about as well, this will be the first edition of the Clup Pipe. Should that be reflected in the signature?

Something like this...
____________________________
------J.M. Boswell 09--------
First Edition Asylum Club Pipe
-----Individual's Initials------

That will be along the bottom of the shank.

I like that, but this will be hand scribed on each pipe, I don't know that all of that will fit legibly
it'll say J.M. Boswell xx-xx-09 for sure, as it does on all of his pipes
the rest would need to be a word or two at most I imagine

Looks good but if it needs to be shortened, maybe:
J.M. Boswell 09
F.E. Asylum C.P.

I like the Asylum 1 ed.
maybe since he's only going to be making a few handfuls of these pipes for the people that were interested, he could individually number them. Just an idea
J.M. Boswell xx.xx.09
Asylum 1ed. XIV

How about
J.M Boswell xx.xx.09
Asylum #1 (or Asylum 1ed.)

this may be the winner here
it captures the significance, and should fit
once the poll closes on the 4th, we'll look at everything and I'll call them back and talk for sure about the inscription

ok, when my voice returns to me, I will call the boswells and let them know we want pipe#4 (or something there about), 25 of them, half smooth, half rusticated.
I figure they'll be somewhere around 90-100 bucks per. each will come with 1oz of tobacco (your choice), cleaners and a czech tool.
in addition to his initials and date, it will say
Asylum 1 ed
purchaser's initials
I will hammer out the payment details when I call, but essentially we will have a sign up on here, and we will call him in the order on our list, and pay. it will sorta be first come first served, but lets be fair to those who have been most open in expressing interest from the beginning, and resist the urge to snipe your way onto the list.
then he will send them out as they're finished, he said probably 1-2 weeks for every few pipes as they're very busy.
comments? complaints?

Do you mean the pipe itself will be half smooth/rusticated, or the batch order will be half smooth pipes, half rusticated ones?

I think he means 13 will be smooth and 12 will be rusticated.

Will the sign up be in this thread or is there going to be another official sign up thread started? I've been excited as hell from the first mention of this coming to light so I don't want to miss it. :D

Boswell pipes are great smokers. I still have one from 1999 and traded one away. I'd like to get in on this if there's room. If it's full then that's OK, too.

There's one thing I notice about Boswell's pokers that bothers me a little.
Iīm slightly germofobic and I canīt help to notice that some of those pipes are carved in a way in which the bit touches the surface... I mean, one of the advantages of pokers is precisely their sitting ability, which means you can put them down anywhere... I really wouldnīt be confortable in putting down a pipe whose bit touches the surface, at least at most places... I would like to know what you guys think about that (am I too paranoid about germs?), but I think that's not a good concept for sitter pipes.
So, Tim, if not too much bother, maybe you could mention that to JM? I really wouldn't be able to enjoy my pipe otherwise...
Sorry for being such a pain in the arse. :(
