Here's a little thread I thought I'd start up to share your thoughts on this year's Fest! It's the 40th Anniversary Fest!
This was our fifth and possibly the best yet.
Here's a list of all the bands we managed to see (and it ain't all Jazz, it's all types of music if you don't know):
From Saturday, April 25th:
The Dixie Cups - Great 3-woman band from the '60's; really enjoyed them.
Lil' Buck Sinegal Blues Band - Freakin' awesome
Collage (Gospel) - Good, not quite amazing (and I love Gospel)
Astral Project (Jazz) - Good stuff, not quite my cup of tea
Rebirth Brass Band with Kermit Ruffins - Good stuff
Pete Seeger & Tao Rodriguez Seeger with Mike & Ruthy - Really great
Irma Thomas - Great
Third World (Reggae) - Excellent
John Mooney & Bluesiana - Awesome
Erykah Badu - I like her but would have preferred a small jazz club as opposed to a big open stage in the field
James Taylor - Awesome
From Sunday, April 26th:
WayneToups & ZyDeCajun featuring "Back to my Roots" - Good stuff
Vivaz! (Latin) - Awesome
Guitar Slim, Jr. - Freakin' awesome Blues
Storyville Stompers Brass Band - Good stuff
Craig Adams & Higher Dimensions of Praise (Gospel) - Amazing!
Germaine Bazzie (Jazz) - Good stuff
Locos por Juana (Latin) - Awesome
Kinky (Latin Rock) - Freakin' awesome, U2 influences with eletronica kinda
Better than Ezra - Eh, sounded good, not my thing
Dave Matthews Band - I've seen 'em twice before, once the whole band & the other time was Tim Reynolds & Dave acoustic...the acoustic was amazingly good so I'm spoiled....this time it wasn't really my thing but we still had a blast...he played for 2 hours & there was a lot of instrumental in between the singing...like 10 minutes of instrumental and I felt as if I wasn't the only one hoping he'd get back to singing again
All in all, an amazing time & I couldn't recommend going to Jazz Fest more. There's still time to go this weekend coming up. There are two weekends of Fest each year. Go now.
