I have been saving a LFD chisel in the bottom of my humidor for the right time but never seem to pick it out when I'm looking for something to smoke. It just never seemed like the right time. Today I was wanting a smoke and I just stuck my hand in the humi without looking, shuffled around and came out with it and said "what the heck, it must be time."
This was a natural, not the maduro. It was a great smoke. It lasted more than an hour and I never really noticed that it was subtly kicking my ass. That is until I finished it. Well really, it was kind of hard to totally finish it. I started getting wobbly towards the end. Then after it was done it kept creeping up on me. If I didn't have a tolerance built up it would have had me turning green. I still liked it a lot. Now I have to get another one to threaten me from the bottom of my humidor for another few months.:ss
They have a reputation that is well earned IMHO.

I smoked my first one when I was fairly new to quality cigars, Lance, and the effect was very similar. ;)

Two movies and plenty of water later I finally finished the first and only one I ever smoked. It is indeed a strong cigar. And if any of you is wondering how long it took, Lets say around three hours.:pu

One of the few cigars that sat me right back down after trying to stand up. Not turning green kinda sick, just kinda wobbly and weak in the knees. I really enjoyed the flavor and great construction but not the kind of stick I reach for on a regular basis, that's for sure.

Chisel Maduros are even better. Double Ligero 654's are freaking spectacular!

I smoke a TON of LFD product (one of our biggest accounts) and I have to say, Chisels, LG Small Batch, Factory Press, DL654's and Cabinet Oscuro 500's are my favorites.

There's always at least 2 LFD cigars in my daily count of smokes.

:tpd: I was thinking of the Litto. I have had the LFD Chisel and it was good, but I don't remember it being really strong.

I like the flavor of the natural more than the maduro. Yeah, the Litto is stronger but I like the flavor of the LFD better. I have a 654 in my humi, I'll have to smoke it soon.
I didn't mention in my OP that it was right before dinner and I had been working outside all day. I knew what I was getting into.

I have such a low tolerance, i was told to not even hold a chisel for too long, the Detroit crew was afraid i would get a contact sickness.

I've had one in the Humi for quite some time... might have to give it a shot. The weather is perfect here into the forseeable future. Springtime in southwest VA is something to behold...

I used the "squeeze the sides" method to pop open the chisel end, it worked real well.

also the LG is a power house,I smoked one and on the way home I stared to feel the nicotine.I punched the gas blower wining all the way home where I pulled a Darrell on my front lawn.

All i had to eat that day was a cup of OJ and 2 slices of toast.

The first one I tried years ago kicked me in the gut too. That's when I started making sure not to smoke on an empty stomach. :)

I've got one from a trade sitting waiting for me to have enough time to sit down with it. Just had a 452 earlier today that took over 1.5 hrs to smoke, so I know the chisel is going to need a good long afternoon.

Never had a Chisel do that to me as I used to smoke these on a regular rotation but the Oscuro Especial got me once a few years back. I was on the train headed home from work(Still living in NY at the time) when a friend asked if I wanted to meet up at one of the locals. Got there around 7ish and had not eaten since 12ish. Decided to smoke an Oscuro Especial and all was well until I decided to get up to head home. I was wobbly as soon as I stood up. I stopped for chinese food on the way home hoping it would help and when I got home I still felt like crap so I decided to take a shower hoping it would help the nausea pass. Nope, instead I yacked in the shower. Felt great after that though.:D

I really like the LFD blends, but I think my favorite size is the Chisel Gorda. Great flavors, and it's just enough IMHO.

I agree that LFD Ecuador-wrapped chisels are very strong.

I came to cigar smoking a year ago with what I thought was a strong nicotine tolerance as I could smoke the strongest pipe blends on an empty stomach. I soon learned that full-strength cigars are a different matter when for the first time, after continuing to smoke the nub of a full-strength cigar and ignoring symptoms of nicotine overload, about which I knew, I threw up.

A year later I seem able to be 2-3 hours out after eating and still smoke a full-bodied cigar. We'll see; this may be just a phase.

LFD Chisels are good. Very one-dimensional but good.
If you guys want a treat, and I mean a cigar that you'll not forget and then yearn for the rest of your days, try the Litto Gomez Diez Chisel that Bob mentioned. It's an absolutely incredible cigar.

Yep, one of the only Dominicans I'll smoke. Bob gave me my first LG Chisel and it put me on my ass. And I smoke Antanos for breakfast. We had even just finished eating a large lunch. I think he rolls nicotine patches in the filler. Good smoke though.

Natural, double ligero, maduro, my favorites. Litto is king in my humidor. The greatest smoking experience that I have had to date was with an airbender chisel. I have always got a couple in the humi.

I had a friend smoke one not too long ago. He's a real big guy who only smokes the fullest of full sticks and by the end he was literally sweating and wobbly. It was kind of amusing to be honest. I have one sitting in the humi that I too have been trying to figure out when to smoke. It's just so big that it involves strategic planning to make sure there is enough time to actually sit and enjoy the whole thing. I love most things LFD minus the Cameroon but than again I have never been a big fan of the Cammy wrappers.
