View Full Version : Where to find Ronson Jetlite?

JimmyPeaches

I've been to nearly all of the wal-marts, CVSs, Walgreens, and other assorted stores, including smoke shops. None of them have these lighters and the B&M I was at last night was out of the z-blaze inserts with no definite time for restocking.

So, at what store do you usually find these lighters?

I just used my Ronsen to light an Opus X a minute ago. No different between a 100 lighter and a Ronsen. It lights just fine. Never will I buy a fancy lighter again.

It seems everytime I go looking for a Ronson I can't find one. Three local Wal-Marts don't have them, none at Walgreens, CVS, then yesterday I went into a Rite-Aid and took a look behind the counter and saw the Ronson soft flame lighters. Behind them though was a Jetlite package peeking out, they had 2 so I got them both. Now I have 3 Ronsons total, 1 Amero Lite and 2 Jetlites. With summer travels approaching I want to make sure I don't find myself out of a lighter.

If you can't find them locally, you can order them from Ronson (http://www.ronsonstore.com/jetLite.aspx).

:tpd: Been using the same Ronson for over 2 years and it still works like a champ. I really like the heft of it too - very solid. I bought mine at Walgreen's, but maybe it's a regional thing? I guess I haven't looked for one in a while either so maybe they're not stocked any longer.

I just picked up a couple yesterday at Wal-Mart. Look at the checkout section that sells cigarettes and other tobacco. Just before the register there should be shelves (like the ones that normally hold candy/gum, etc) with batteries, matches, and lighters.

Exactly, I have gone through about a dozen of these my self. In fact, just left one in Fl the other day with a Brother-in-law that had flown down. He asked what to do with it as it will not go on the plane. I said toss it for $3.

This can't be counted on, but at the BIGLOTS cash register last week I saw

Hey guys I new here, which I am sure you can tell! Anyways, about a year ago I purchased a Ronson from Walmart and it served me very well for the entire time I used it but a few months ago I lost it. I spent almost half of my day today trying to track down another one, I went to every single Walmart near me, visited a couple of Walgreens and called about a dozen CVS' and other more distant Walmarts, Biglots, and Walgreens and was met with some very confused faces and no luck in finding one. Does anyone know of any other stores that sell them or anyone who ships them? I live in the Dallas, TX area and really want to find another one(or few)! Thanks guys!

I checked out the website and the only thing preventing me from ordering from them is that the total to purchase and ship one lighter is $13. I am not an extremely cheap man but the reason I want to buy a Ronson is because of the price. The fact that they charge $7.50 for shipping an item smaller than the palm of my hand is ridiculous!

I know that with Ronsons that either the places that have them will get a run on them and sell out quickly. I saw on Ebay that there are sellers who will sell themby the 12 pak : Lot of 12 Ronson Jetlite Butane Torch Lighters New NIB $49.95 Free shipping 11d 15h 50m

If you will go on Ebay and do a search for Ronson Lighters you can score a bunch for the price of one Colibri or other name brand. You can go in with a couple of buddies and share the total cost as well.

Oh, it's like just trolling the bait in FRONT of me!!
Perhaps TMC has an unlimited supply of cash, but EVERY, and I do mean EVERY lighter I have ever paid any kind of cash for has broken in no time flat. They tell you they can fix it, just send 19.95 plus your lighter plus 20 dollars shipping and handling, blablabla. I don't care how free the service is, the lighter shouldn't BREAK in the first place. And if it does, why on earth would I ever want to have some crap lighter with a golden price tag for anyway. OK, venting over. Ronson Jetlites provide all of the flame of the competitors costing 10 to 30 times as much, plus they work and work and work. And if one should break, you are not overly upset, because you did NOT pay big cash for it. They can be bought 5-10 at a time if you hit it on the right day, and you come out about the same as Colibri in price. You think that Lambourghini lighter won't break just cause it's costly? Haha, I don't think so anymore. I have seen em all break, or heard about it.
Good old Ronson. If only they were not also made in China. Great lighters if you can find em.

I have never seen them at CVS myself but some otheres have. Many of the Super Walmarts either don't have them, can't find them or don't know they have them..... but if they do have them they will be around the checkout at the Cigarette holding area. You will have to search them out yourself though. I have a steady supply from a local old style Walmart in a very small town nearby, they have them behind the counter on the cigarette checkout. You have to search them out though the employees have no idea what you are talking about.

They can often be found at Big Lots but once again they don't know what they are either. There you have to walk along and check all the register aisles, they hang them with the crap on the pegboards there, often only on one register aisle though so check them all.;s

I find them quite regular around here at Wal-Mart. Of course, I have 12 WM Supercenters within 30 minutes of me. May do something I done on CS to earn a little trader feedback. They are $3 each, and cost about $2 to ship including the envelope, etc. I may pick a few up and let them go for $5 on here if anybody would be interested. Not trying to make anything on them, just cover my cost and pickup a little feedback.

My point is what happened to the 2.97 price at Wal Mart. I called Zippo/Ronson customer relations and they told me Walgreens and CVS were the only retailers on their list. I asked what happened with WalMart carrying them and she said she didn't know. I think Ronson realized that they could get a bit more for their product. Only thing I can think of.

No longer the magical lighter to me. Yes 5 bucks is reasonable, but I feel cheated somehow.:td

You have to remember, when Walmart tells you to sell your lighter for under 3 bucks, you do it or your done. They were probably loosing their asses. I know I picked mine up last year for under 4 bucks at Walgreen's. I just can't kill this thing, it definitely outlasted my 3 Colibri's that all took a crap after a few months.

You feel cheated by paying $5 for a quality torch lighter that will outlast most lighters that cost 10 times that? Wow. I for one am glad that walmart no longer carries these. I hate the fact that they can dictate to manufacturers what they will pay for their product. That's kinda bass ackwards from the way it should be, don't you think?

There are 2 CVS stores in my town. One had them and the other (closer one, go figure) still "had" one. When I am not in a rush and come up to a CVS, I stop to check if they have them. Paid off today picked up another one and was told that they are expecting more in their Thursday delivery. I guess I will be going back.

Maybe this is why they are hard to find all of a sudden...

In 2009, Zippo announced plans to purchase Ronson Consumer Products Corporation, a long-time competitor in the lighter market.

On February 3, 2010, the deal was finalized.

March 2011: Due to significant decrease of sales from 18 million lighter a year in the mid-1990s to about 12 million lighters this year related with pressure increasing on folks not to smoke, Zippo Manufacturing Co. will try offering a wider variety of products using Zippo brands such as watches, leisure clothing and cologne. This strategy is similar with a success of Victorinox Swiss Army Brands Inc. has had selling watches, luggage, clothing and fragrance.

I have a feeling Ronson Jetlites being carried in most all 4,500 Wal-Mart stores and selling for under $3 was killing Zippo. So rather than build a better product, they buy out the competition and kill it.

Actually, to my and others dismay, Zippo is still manufacturing Ronson Jetlite lighters. If you look on the back it now says to contact them for the lighters 1 year warranty and it has the Zippo address. So no fear boys, the Ronson Jetlite will live on!

I've found these a grand total of once in the last five years. That's traveling all over a good part of PA and OH. When I did find them they were in a checkout line at the Walmart in PA where I lived.
The SuperWally here has the tobacco at a single cash register. I'll check that option. CVS and Walgreen's here, nothing. They're either a regional thing or they hide them real well, or I suck at hunting them up.

I remember when I was looking for these. The Ronson's are not regional at all. It's kinda like the candy that's really hard to find, but sometimes you see it on the shelf. Sometime or another every walmart will get a small shipment on Jet Lites. I was told by Walmart store managers at both stores that they know Walmart carries them, but for some reason they don't get shipments but every couple months.

Ronson Jet Lites are far from THE BEST. They are a good, inexpensive lighter that is available from many sources, including WalMart.

I have several Ronson's and have given many as gifts. But they have some serious drawbacks.

They have a very small fuel capacity.

The top only open 90degrees and the all metal top can often get overheated.

In cold weather, they must first be warmed in the hands(or kept in your pocket) before lighting.

At WalMart price of $2.99 they are not bad.

A better value is the Chinese Blazer knock off available from DealExtreme. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/compact-1300-c-butane-jet-lighter-4179 I have heard that the new ones are not as good as the ones from a few years ago, but I have not ordered in a while. I am still using several that are now approaching four years old.

The Blazer PB-207 has a huge fuel capacity and is a sturdy lighter but lacks some aesthetic appeal to some.

Lighters are like cigars, use what you like and like what you use. If it lights your cigar, then be happy. :2

Mutombo
11-12-2011, 09:47 AM
^^I recently switched to those chinese blazer knockoffs recently for the reasons you stated above. The fuel capacity on the jetlites is just too small, and I was constantly running out of fuel, which forced me to carry TWO lighters everywhere.

I bought the blazer knockoffs about 2 months ago and couldn't be happier. All my friends are even ordering them too, they are great!

From the TSA website:

In an effort to concentrate resources on detecting explosive threats, TSA will no longer ban common lighters in carry-on luggage as of August 4, 2007. Torch lighters remain banned in carry-ons.

Lifting the lighter ban is consistent with TSA's risk-based approach to aviation security. First and foremost, lighters no longer pose a significant threat. Freeing security officers up from fishing for 22,000 lighters every day (the current number surrendered daily across the country) enables them to focus more on finding explosives, using behavior recognition, conducting random screening procedures and other measures that increase complexity in the system, deterring terrorists. The U.S. is the only country in the world to ban lighters – all other nations, including Israel and the U.K., do not.

I wonder if the idiots that work at TSA can even spell TSA.

Low and behold today the Wal-Mart had about 20 of these on the rack behind the register with the tobacco. I reached over and grabbed three... one Satin, one Dusk, and one Dusk Art Deco. The Dusk is going in a small bomb on its way to one of my wife's friends who just had a baby... her husband sent me an Ashton Maduro when my triplets were born (before I even started smoking) so I'm going to return fire with a Perdomo ESV 91. The other two will end up in the glove box of my car and my golf bag.

One interesting thing I've noticed is that you can sand/scuff/polish these down to a base metal with hints of copper... maybe some kind of layers of nickel plating over a mild steel? I discovered this when trying to remove some scratches from a Dusk Art Deco and after the Dusk finish/coating (I doubt PVD, probably something spray-on) wore off I started noticing the copper hues... I continued to scuff (grey scotchbrite) and then finished of with some Brasso. It's not a consistaent bright copper like a new penny, but probably 75-80% light copper with some silver base metal mostly at the folds and seams. This was a good bit of work on a $3-$5 lighter and might be lipstick on a pig, but it is definitely unique. I'll try to post pictures later...

I'm also trying to decide on a paint-fill color for the Art Deco lines that might compliment the copper color... any ideas? Maybe a chocolate brown or something to try to simulate an antiqued patina buildup?

These disappeared around Atlanta for a while but now I am starting to see them again and even in the drugstores that didn't carry them before. Price seems to have climbed a bit but they are still under $5

I've had no problem finding them at any Walgreens in the ATL area for around $5 as mentioned before, but I've only seen them at one Wal-Mart (Cobb Parkway) for $3 each.

Interesting for about a year I couldn't find them at all. When they were plentiful I could only find them at CVS and Rite-Aid but never at Walgreen's and Wal-Mart. With that said I noticed the Walgreens up by the Square on 120 this past weekend had them in stock. If I get a chance this weekend I'll make a stop by Wally World.

About a month ago I was checking every Wal-Mart I drove by to find them and then broke down and bought a couple for $5 at Walgreens. So far I've only seen them at this one Wal-Mart on Cobb Parkway, but I haven't been to any others recently either.

Has anyone seen these anywhere in a polished chrome? Also, anyone seen the "Amero Lite" and/or "Euro Lite" anywhere? I've seen these different models as well as the polished chrome Jetlite on eBay, but never anywhere else (including Ronson's website). The "Amero Lite" looks to be a rounded version of the Jetlite, while the "Euro Lite" is skinnier and has a clasp on the flip closure. Both "Amero" and "Euro" are selling for around $8-$12 on eBay... interesting, but not the same value as $3-$5 locally for the Jetlite.

There were a number of people on here that purchased the AmeroLite for about $1 a pop at from a web site that shall remain nameless. Many found their credit cards hacked shortly thereafter. The AmeroLite is not a jetlite, but a poorer hybrid version. :2

Good to know... I assumed it was the same mechanism in a different case... they look pretty sweet, but if they don't perform then I guess there's not much point!

Troy, try blasting the jet with your can of butane. Also if you take the little screw out of the bottom you can pop out the little brass clip around the adjustment screw and adjust for a higher flame.

Used these lighters for years when I smoked. My walmart no longer carries them...but I found them at Walgreens for $5 per today. Picked up a couple. Nothing fancy about these lighters...but they burn any type of fuel with no problems...and if they break, you only lost 5 bucks. Mine were always reliable back then, more so than most $30-50 torch lighters. These get my :tu

...but they burn any type of fuel with no problems...

Through some fairly unscientific experimenting the 3 I have on hand all seem to actually run BETTER on Ronson fuel, especially when the adjustment restrictor is removed and the flame height is really cranked up... an over-driven flame on 5x Refined fuel is more prone to softening and puffing-out and requires the height to be dialed down close to or below the original limited max.

My experience is the opposite. I only used Ronson fuel in one of my Jetlites. It was also the only one not to last more than 3 months. The rest I feed Vector and some of them have been going for years.

My comments really only pertained to performance at max flame and not longevity. Mine have only been going a few months each and get rotated around with a Lotus Laser, B&M house lighters, and soon an Ever Tech Spark. It's definitely not like any one sees daily (or even weekly) use. It's quite possible that my Ronson-fueled Jet Lite torches will give up the goat well before before my FasFile-fueled torches.

I finally pulled the trigger on one from Walgreens. I was expecting it to be light, cheap and plasticy. I was dead wrong. It's heavy and just wonderfully constructed. It closes perfectly. I don't think I'll ever need a Xikar...

I had my last Jetlite confiscated by security in a Chinese airport. I survived with Hotel matches until I found a lighter stand at a supermarket. I tried a bunch out and liked the feel of this one, made by Honest:
http://fracstar.com/pics/lighter.jpg
It has a little hinged cover that pulls back when you depress the igniter and a slot on the front to view the fuel level. I'm not sure what good the lanyard is. Maybe so it doesn't get away from you at herfs. It was labeled 38 RMB, about $6 but I talked her down to 30 RMB, about $4.75.
It's about 3 1/4 inches long and heavy.
I'm still looking to replace my Jetlite.

I only need it when I go to B&M's, or other public places. Style is key in public ;)

When I'm at home, I have a bunch of those big resevoir ones from dealextreme :tu

Mine just crapped out, so I went and bought another. The new one I got is a darker color, like a gunmetal, and feels cheaper... but the flame it puts out is bigger than my old Ronson. Oh well, as long as it lights...

Actually there is a 1-year warranty on them.

What I find is that some have different tolerances, only staying lit in a large "flame" and some allow a much smaller flame. Turn the screw to adjust the flame until it will stay lit, I bet it will work just fine...albeit a fuel chugger.

I appreciate this thread along with a few others regarding the type of lighter to use. I think that may have been one of many of my problems starting out...I was using a good old fashioned Zippo...lol

I hit the local WalMart Superstore and it was a no-go, Both of the local Walgreens had the Ronson single jet for $5.00, Wasn't sure just yet so I checked the local Flea Market (there is always a ton of vendors) found a guy with a stock of China made single jet lighters for $3.00 ea.

I went back to Walgreens and got the $5 lighter but if the next paycheck looks good I may pick up one of the $3 China lighters to see if it is comparable to the Ronson...if so I'll grab a bunch.
