I opened up my humidification device to put beads in it, but want to know what this green stuff is in it. Obviously some sort of sponge, but then pushed into, it doesn't take its original shape.

Florist's Foam... or something like it.

Definitely not cat litter.

Floral foam used to soak up PG - Pitch it and get some RH Beads!

The beads are soooo much better and much less maintenance to worry about! :tu

Exactly. The future In-laws have owned a chain of flower shops for almost 30 years. They buy it by the truck loads.

They also use a medical grade sponge that's suppose to help with the elimination of mold growth.

:tpd: Totally agree! Why bother with all of the hassle of PG and distilled water when you can use beads. I find that beads help minimize the RH spikes I used to get after recharging the foam.

I am really pushing cigar crystals these days. Easier to refill than beads and they work just as well if not better in desktops.

Oasis foam is what comes standard with most humidors but I always recommend an upgrade.
