Got these in Feb '08. Robustos.

What a great blend. Lots of subtle flavor changes and a great aroma.

For those of you who like ass-kicking cigars, you owe it to yourself and your wallet to try these. Prime rib flavor for the price of a hamburger. This is one of those cigars that make me question why I ever pay more than $2 for a cigar. :ss

Agreed...its been a while since Ive had one. I think its time to fill up the shopping cart at famous. Im also fond of the Dominican 5000 toros. With about 6 month on them they make a great morning cigar in the summer with some iced coffee. :dr

Dominican 5000, eh? :hm

I've tried the 1000 (didn't care for 'em), the 2000 (OK but won't buy again) and the 4000 (pretty good, need some more). Are the 5000 mild? The customer reviews have kept me from trying the 5000.

To be honest when I first had the Dom 5000 it sucked it was bitter and harsh, I tossed it about 1/2 way. Stashed them away in the humi for about 6 months then gave them another try. I couldn't believe how nicely they rounded out. Smooth, creamy, nutty, sweet and mild. The famous description pretty much nails it!

I only had a fiver so I cant comment on consistency but the few I had really turned out to be excellent. As I stated before, Ive only had them in the morning and always paired them with a ice coffee and a little coffee mate hazelnut creamer. May its the combo, I dont know? The whole experiance got me interested in connecticuts again. Something I put on the back burner for a long time.

If you think they're good now, put some away for this time next year. I still have some that are about 3-1/2 yrs old - YOWZA! :)

Going the opposite route today. Smoking a torpedo from a bundle I just got a couple of days ago. Sticker on the bottom says 2-09. These babies are fresh.

Unique flavor that no other cigar even comes close to. A lot of "strength" but really GOOD flavor. Weird spices. Rosemary?

One of my favorite NCs. Hell, one of my favorite cigars PERIOD. :ss

That would be the original batch, right? So the ones you have are actually Oliva Serie X. :dr

Does the size of these 3000's make a difference in flavor???

I've had several of the Nicaraguan 3000 Grande Robusto's (6x60) and have another bundle in the humidor that just turned 6 months. They've always been one of my favorites.

Actually no, from my experience, and I've smoked every size except the grande robusto (60 RG is just too fat for me). There's a very good consistency in the blend across the different sizes.

The funny thing is I think these have more "Cuban" flavor than many Cuban cigars.

Smoked my first Famous Nicaraguan 3000 tonight, toro size. What a great cigar, totally terrific. Leathery, spicy, and woody flavors, almost velvety on the tongue. Excellent construction. I got this in a PIF from BlackIrish. They're out of stock currently, but when they're back in I'll be buying some.

Probably my favorite NC, and one of my favorite cigars period.

I wish they would try a few new sizes though, with a bit thinner RG. Maybe a lonsdale or corona gorda.

If they made a corona I'd smoke them all of the time. I still smoke the robustos quite a bit, but a smaller RG would be awesome.

I'm with you Mark, I would love to see this in a corona gorda. But even in their current size I would love to get some more of these. I have only had one thanks to Shellie, but every time I go to Famous to check them out they are not available.

On of the best smokes i have to this date. The price is great, if you can find them however.

The 3000 almost got added as a blind taste test cigar. Now I wish I added it.

These sound like the JR Cuban ALTs Bolivar coronas and Cohiba Sig IVs.

OK, So have they changed over the years? I got a bundle of the Torps back in '06 and I love 'em. I'd like to get some more, but I'm afraid like many store brand bundles, the maker/blend/etc has changed. So are they the same as they used to be?

This whole thread makes me very happy as I got a bundle of 5k robustos to round out my recent order. I figured for $1.50/stick from monster, what did I have to lose? Now I'm drooling. :banger

Nic 3s are amazing from Famous! I had a bundle I put 2 years on and then couldn't stop smoking them about 6 months ago and then the bundle was gone! Damn, those were damned tasty!

I notice varying wrapper shades from batch to batch, but over all they have maintained a very good consistency with this line. Famous knows they have a winner, they ain't gonna screw it up. :ss

I've got a bundle from 10/2009 and it is as good as my last bundle which was about a year older. These are the real deal. Little Havana Overruns are in the same league for me.

Brag warning:

I have two left from the original offering, four left from the first offering with bands. :D:banger

MCS is right on the money. These smoke best with a year or more on them. Not bad fresh, but killer with age. Wish I had purchased ten bundles way back when, instead of only 2 bundles!!!

I have not had one of these in while. I picked some up a couple years ago while I was in PA visiting family. The guy behind the counter said if I let them rest a bit I would be surprised. Man was he right. You cant beat this cigar for the money as long as you have the time to invest.

Saw this thread last week and it got me thinking about the Nic 3000's sitting in the humidor. Pulled one out today (6x60) that I bought back in 9/2008. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great smoke. Guess I'll have to revisit these a little more often since I still have a few ..... maybe even stash another bundle away for a few years.
