View Full Version : My Humidor(s)

Hello gentlemen, and ladies if there are any here (only second day so I'm not sure yet.) I just replied to a humidor conversion thread and thought I'd post a couple pics of the humidors I've built.

This was my first, made my mistake by making it a "display" humidor and sacrificed to much space doing that. I love the way it came out, but soon outgrew it.

LOL, OK, the site only allows five pictures per post, so I'm going to have to reply a couple times with the others! :r

I made the following three desktops, one for myself, (the Lacewood version) and one for each of my best friends. The others are Birdseye Maple and Black Walnut.

And my last one is the humidor I currently use at home. It's Honduran Mahogany, 3/8" Spanish Cedar lined and solid Spanish Cedar shelves. I use a four canister Accumonitor for humidification and being that it's in my basement, it stays at a steady 65 degrees.

Beautiful humidors. If you ever have a desire to build some custom humidors for sale, shoot me a pm and maybe we can talk partnership.

I've built several for forum members on other sites I frequent, but honestly, it's a hobby for me. I build yachts for a living in the wood shop. I do interiors and furniture for the boats, so the humidors are not something I can commit the time to, plus out of respect for the actual humidor builders, yourself, Avallo, Arlin, Bob and so forth, I don't want to step on any toes.

Although I'm always open to discussion and idea sharing if you are down with that as well.

ok...so I just got my humidor delivered today. I love the labels on the labels on the lid and would like to do this. Mine is a glass top..does anyone have any ideas on the best way for me to do this?

So you want to put cigar bands on top of your glass top humidor? Hmmmm. The down side is that you'd see all the backs of the bands and adhesive when you open your humidor, unless you put some Spanish Cedar under there as well.

Not that it couldn't be done, but to do this you'd need to have a lip that stands proud of the glass, which you should have. I used Mod Podge or whatever it's called to glue the bands down, you do need to act quick and be accurate as it dries pretty quick and makes the bands very moist and they tear easily. Once all the bands are in place, let the adhesive dry over night. The I used a two part epoxy called Mirror Coat made by System Three. (http://www.systemthree.com/p_mirror_coat.asp) It's pretty simple to use, the only caution I'd have is bubbles of air that will release into the epoxy from where the glass top sits in it's dado. The bubbles do pretty much self pop and be sure you have your humidor on a very level surface. You may use some of the Mod Podge glue to seal the area where the glass goes inside the lid, (does that make sense)?

If you want to tackle it, and have questions, just PM me.

I did these for myself as well for my travel humidors:

The seedy glass really looks different in pics. Seeing it live makes all the difference. Just enough distortion to break up the lines but you can still see what each box is inside.

Nope... Didn't make the Spring RNR...

Expecting my first kid in July... So I been busy working trying to stash away as much cash as possible... Haven't been riding much either...

Its looking like the ONLY rally I will make this year is MAR III... Hope the turn out is decent... I wanna try to make the FALL RNR but it isn't looking promising because I don't think my wife would be happy being left home alone with a 3 month old...

Only time will tell though...

Never been to MAR and I know this year for me it's not even in the plans, I've got TOTT which is in Des Moines this year...that's WEIRD! Then Sturgis in August and the fall RNR. Hopefully I can pull the trigger on all three, if not, I'm gonna have to pass on the RNR, I hate to miss seeing all that family, but I can't miss TOTT for obvious reasons and Sturgis...well, that's just Sturgis. :tu

LOL, as you topped this thread, I went back first and looked at the pics I posted. When I came to that exact pic, I thought, "hmmm, I wish I didn't burn all that Spanish Cedar." Thing is, my scrap area is usually overflowing and often I cull pieces out to the fire pit. That cedar I wish I'd have saved.
